I never got that response. __________________________________________ I should have said that maybe they'll THINK that way, even if they won't say it out loud. Or at least they might think "what makes you think I'll ever have any, when all I want to do is play, when I get home from work?" Nowadays, after all, we don't think of parenthood as something that just "happens," just because men and women still get married. Btw, the original book "Pinocchio" is highly moralistic when it comes to the importance of hard work, both during and after school years (and Pinocchio is not at all the innocent Disney type), but even THAT book says nothing about parenthood and its responsibilities as being inevitable. __________________________________________________ Lenona, you do have an interest in teen sex or sex before marriage and also teens fighting for their "rights." As I stated, a good parent is NOT a teen's best friend. They will go for anything they can and a good parent will say no - often to their dismay. ________________________________________________ I am well aware of that, thank you. I am a fan of Bratfree. Contrary to what non-followers think, it's not anti-child so much as it's anti-bad-parenting - and anti-sentimentality. One positive term they use is PNB (Parent, not Breeder). I also like to read psychologist John Rosemond's column, because even though some think of him as the anti-Dr. Spock, he really isn't, since he's authoritative, not authoritarian. Plus, he's praised Spock. He also once said he can't think of any area where he and Judith Martin (author of the Miss Manners column) don't overlap. (I can, but not often.) I WILL say there are a few modern issues he should learn to address - but he never does. Other than that, he combines the old with the new very well, much in the same way my mother did. For all his conservatism, HE likely wouldn't have used certain old cliches with his kids either, if only because the two cliches I cited sound overly emotional, for a parent, and he doesn't believe in talking when you can just act. And, for the record, one mantra of his is: "Want your kids to be truly happy, creative, and independent? Put your marriage first (or if single, your general adult life first)." He firmly believes in not even trying to be your kids' friend until after they've left home for good. Who wants to leave a friend's house, after all - and who wants to have one's kids living there forever? ____________________________________________ You sound to me like someone that never had kids of your own. Sounds like you base your beliefs on yourself growing up as a kid. Am I wrong? ____________________________________________ Yes and no. I don't have kids. Yes, I think more kids need the sort of raising I had. But it's also true that I seriously worry, sometimes (in part because of news stories) about being surrounded by 10-year-old hoodlums when I'm 80. Also, I have a dear friend who went to Harvard and became a teacher and is also raising 3 boys, with the father. You'd think someone like that would understand the importance of restricting kids' screen time to 2 hours a day and making them work a lot more and entertain themselves, etc. Nope. Her 6-year-old screams bloody murder whenever the screens get turned off. Back when her oldest son was three (in 2009) I was helping her with him. Here's an important part. If I hadn't read one or two Rosemond books by then, I could EASILY have been brainwashed by the "common wisdom" at that time that said that anything that makes a small kid cry buckets is automatically horribly wrong, such as an 8 o'clock bedtime, screen time restrictions, not allowing soda or ice cream at breakfast, etc. Thank goodness I HAD read them - my friend said afterward "I don't know what I'd do without you." I've also given them over 180 kids' books in the last 14 years - and right now, she and the older two boys, at least, are VERY grateful for them. Lenona. |

There's likely not a damned thing wrong with his shoulder other than that's his alibi for ED because he can no longer get it up... his 'shooting' problem is urological. They were a 7.62mm gas operated semi automatic with a 20 round magazine. They were prohibited weapons. At the time there were number of semiautomatic .308 hunting rifles that were perfectly legal. The only real difference is the flash eliminator and the magazine capacity. They could have blocked the mags or simply made smaller ones. Same bullet, same rate of fire, same mag capacity. > He took his deer with a .357 Magnum pistol because he can't shoulder > a rifle big enough to kill a deer. You cannot hunt with a hand gun here. Most people can't shot a hand gun well enough to hit a deer. Not to mention there is no concealed or open carry here. You can only shoot handguns are approved ranges. > like to see some meaningful laws in this country that would keep guns > out of the hands of weirdos. A good first step would be to consistently > enforce the laws that are in place. We have a pretty good system here. You have to be licensed to own firearms and to buy ammunition and to be in possession of same. You have to take a course and get references. That weeds out most of the weirdos. The incident last week involved a man who apparently had a mental health issue and who was not licensed to possess firearms. The government's reaction was to pass by Order in Council (Cabinet), something that would not have passed in Parliament, a ban on "assault weapons" even though there was not an assault rifle used in those killings. |

| Silvar Beitel <silverbeetle@charter.net>: May 02 02:49PM -0700 So, I have half a fresh pineapple left over from another venture that needs to be used up. Pineapple upside down cake appeals to me, but I don't really want to make the cake part from scratch. I do, however, have a box of lemon cake mix. If I dump the pineapple, in slices, with some brown sugar, in the bottom of a 9x13 pan and pour the prepared lemon cake mix on top, would the result be horrible or fantastic or something in between? I await your opinion. -- Silvar Beitel |

(The God of the bible and the God that created everything u see around u. We became cursed and lost our position and was put into different bondages. Even intil now. but the most high promises to not be angry for ever.....so he will redeem his people. We were thefirst man he created. We are not going to remain like thi to much longer. These bondages we been in and those who have offended us WILL BE DESTROYED. Because u don't believe this won't make it not happen. Your time is about up. Its written in the bible and all the writings of old. So all u are doing is heaping more destruction on yourself for picking a fight with someone who aint picking with u. All we want is to live free and be able to have what we need as a people. U couldn't have done none of those things u said the white man did without us. The fact of how my people have been treated and slaved by all your people will not go unpunished. We have not had a chance as you all have had to be free and live without being tempered with. All THOSE WHO HAVE TREATED THE APPLE OF GODS EYE LIKE WE WERE SOMETHING BAD OR LIKE WE WERE ANIMALS OR SOMETHING. ANY PEOPLE U TAKE FROM THEIR LAND AND FROM THEIR PEOPLE AND ENSLAVE THEM. TREAT THEM LIKE PROPERTY LIKE NOTHING. THAT PEOPLE WILL NOT BE LIKE A PEOPLE THAT HAS BEEN FREE ALWAYS. BUT GOD THE MOST HIGH WILL DEAL WITH ALL WHO HAVE DONE THESE WICKED THINGS TO HIS PEOPLE. JUST BECAUSE U THINK ITS NOT TRUE WILL NOT STOP IT FROM COMING. GOD has NOT forgot his people and the covenant he made with us. Sorry dude...... I wouldn't want to be u ....someone who just hate his people for nothing. He said he would bless alk those who bless us and he will curse all those who curse us. Peace im out. |
