From what I've heard about of states with no car inspections (at least some of them), if you get in an accident and you have faulty equipment (that an inspection would have caught and fixed), you get an expensive ticket for "faulty equipment." On the other hand, shops that will do the inspection AND will fix the problems, tend to get really picky just to be able to charge you much more for their time. The inspection only isn't worth their time. They treat that as a "loss leader." Cheap price to attract you then they nail you for extras that you need. Similar to grocery stores. |

I agree with Cindy about smoking *INDOORS* in public places, but your issue with *OUTDOOR* smoking is kind of a baby, totally intolerant reaction and there is way too much of that these days. Everyone has different lifestyles. When out in public, it's not all about you anymore. The smokers yielded and went outside rather than smoke inside. Give them a break. If they, right outside the door annoy you, just take a few more steps away from them (upwind is closer). |

If there are a few of them smoking near the door you have to get through, you may be smelling of cigarettes for the rest of the day. Not nice. But as an ex-smoker of 16 years ago, I still like the smell of fresh cigarette smoke. Fresh, not from hours ago, still lingering on my clothes. -- This is NOT a post by Dave Smith |

If some jackass is smoking next to the grocery store entrance, it's nearly impossible to avoid them. Then they throw their butts on the ground so the area smells like an ashtray forever. > The smokers yielded and went outside rather than smoke inside. Give them > a break. Why should I give a break to a fool with no common courtesy and a death wish besides? > If they, right outside the door annoy you, just take a few more steps > away from them (upwind is closer). Sometimes there isn't an "upwind". For example, if the wind is coming from the west and the building faces east. Cindy Hamilton |

For people like you and Dave that are so damn intolerant of anything that you don't like, just stay at home always and do all your shopping by ordering deliveries online. Quit bitching about what other people do that annoy you. The other people are probably bitching about what YOU do too. Should *I* start a fight to outlaw bright red lipstick? |

Here's a funny about that: About 40 years ago, I went to my parents 25th anniversary celebration. It was turned into the annual family reunion and about 200+ people attended, all related at least by marriage. There was one unmarried girl there I talked to and was immediately attracted to. So nice, about my age, and totally beautiful. "Oh man, I really like this girl" I was ready to "hit on her" for a date, etc Then I learned that she was one of my first cousins that I hadn't seen since we were young children. Dammit, so that ended my quest for her. Jump ahead many years (not that long ago) and I found out that the state of Maryland allows first cousin marriages. If I had known that then, I would have gone for it. If we had gotten married though, I wouldn't have felt so good about having children. Maybe adopt some kids (or maybe adopt some older ferrets). lol :) |

The first time I had onion rings at A&W was in the early 70's. The rings were indeed an extruded product. I know that because I took several apart to understand what I was eating because that's just the kind of guy I am. I haven't been to an A&W in some 40 years or so. It doesn't surprise me that they've changed the product. I had some onion rings from Jack in the Box this evening and they were real and just awesome! |

Looks like a lot of work to me. But hey, that's me. Lots of foliage. Probably a lot of spiders and other creepy crawlers hanging around. But getting back to the houseguest. When I was a kid I got a hold of a few books by Henry Miller I wanted to read because they had 'fuck' and other verboten words in them. I quickly bored of them. But one book, Tropic of Cancer, or Capricorn, came with other short stories, and the one that finished the book was the only thing I liked by Miller and it had no cursing at all in it. It was called "A Devil in Paradise" and was about a needy friend he invited over from Paris to stay at his Big Sur California home and wouldn't leave. All sorts of excuses. Lots of conniving. It was funny. I enjoyed it. I'm sure everyone has experienced the unwanted guest motif. (I use the word motif even if not always proper because I like the word). The motif, the formula, whatever - to me it has always been funny as seen from both sides. Trying to get rid of someone without getting forceful can be quite the comedy. Not while it's happening - not to the host anyway - but later when it's over. I heard your comments about the guest in the house you covet and imagined you letting him stay only to later want him out and not being able to get rid of him without calling for outside help or getting ultra forceful on your own as the guy continues to use the "Come on man, just one more day" routine on you.................. The image is entertaining. |

Is this your way of saying, "I like this one", regarding our posts, or are you mocking us. Notice I used the word "us" right now instead of just "me". Why? Because an ally is always good - takes the pressure off. I used Gary in this case. You tend to respond to my posts quite a bit with the Ghe ghe ghe motif. I am taking this as a compliment or some form of positive recognition. Even if I'm wrong I will continue to view your brief and nearly wordless responses as compliments.
