Here, the premier of the state lifted various covid measures when everybody knew there was a huge omicron wave coming. The wave came and now the health system's crumbling under the large number of cases. Non-elective surgery's being postponed. Doctors and nurses already were on their last legs and are barely coping now. So what does the premier say: "The health system's doing fine." Politicians are unbelievable. -- This is NOT a post by Dave Smith |

Even with the stronger ones I feel natural immunity is best. Get sick and get well or get sick and die. The medical industry makes me sick. I do not consider this virus warrants the reaction it's getting. It's blown way out of proportion, but anyway, I'm not much in the mood for this subject today. >They tore the tobacco industry apart and have replaced it with something far worse. Truth is all these industries are sickening because they all need the very thing they profess to be against. Cops need crime, doctors need disease, dentists need tooth decay, and so forth. I can't speak for your town, but the one I've been living in the past 27 years, Winston Salem NC, was a big tobacco town (which is why there are Winston and Salem cigarets), and is now dominated by the medical industry. Even the old tobacco lofts have been refurbished to accommodate the drones working for Baptist Hospital. Of course tobacco is not good for people, especially if they overuse it. But you knew what you were dealing with. The same can not be said of the products the medical people are putting out. Like most people I do not want to die, but I am >for the get sick and get well or get sick and die routine on this one. Too many doctors and too many people relying on them in futile efforts to live forever. Man it's sickening. It's true people in general should take greater personal responsibility. Most seem to want to do nothing to improve their own general health, never mind immune system. Being independent in any way is progressively being discouraged, too. |

I didn't get a demeaning or challenging vibe from his words. I think he genuinely wanted to know. You are correct, they are entitlement programs - and believe me I am entitled. I worked for minimum wage most of my life. I worked for the weekend, never thought I'd get anywhere through work and still think the vast majority of people won't either. So I worked just to get by. I paid into the system. I'm getting what I deserve, the bare minimum, $800 a month plus food stamps and cheap rent in a HUD place. Some people sound jealous and resentful of my position. But if given an opportunity to trade places with me, I guarantee they wouldn't take it. I am content with it although if I somehow came into big money I'd find another place to live. But I'm not looking. I moved in here 4 years ago at age 70 and tend to see it as my final stop. Thanks. It sounds like you're comfortable and that's the main thing. We also have public housing in Australia, although any adult under a certain income can apply. The keyword being 'apply', because you may be waiting more than a decade to actually be inside your own public housing. This varies state by state, but these days the system has deteriorated quite a lot. The demand is always too high. Some states already have a (rental) housing shortage, even if you can afford to pay full prices. |

| bob <bobsmith@sympatico.com>: Jan 12 08:11AM -0700 https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/6648-dutch-baby I made this today and IMO it's much better than pancakes. Also quick and easy. Did it a little different than the recipe above. Used 100% Buckwheat flour Toasted some pine nuts and added diced pear Poured the batter over the pine nuts and pear Baked The buckwheat flour makes for a denser product but I like the flavor. Served with warm maple syrup. |
