Digest for rec.food.cooking@googlegroups.com - 25 updates in 10 topics

Ed Pawlowski <esp@snet.xxx>: Mar 06 03:10PM -0500

The other day we stopped at a roadside produce stand for the first time.
Much of what they had was not a pretty as the supermarket. What is
lacked in appearance it more than made up with it in flavor and price.

The supermarket tomatoes look pretty, but they lacked flavor and were a
way from being ripe. The ones bought here were fully ripe and made a
great tomato sandwich for lunch today.

Strawberries were great for $2 a quart. I sliced them up and just had
some for a snack. Again, nice color and lots of flavor, better than the
ones I saw for $3 and up. Peaches were pretty good too.

I get the impression they buy stuff that the big stores pass on because
it won't last as long, but at the right price, they move it. Good deal
if you are going to use it up quickly.

I thought about you the other day when I gassed up my car in 15 F
weather with a brisk wind.

Enjoy your produce. You deserve every delicious morsel.

BTW Ed, do you plan on doing a little gardening at your new abode, or with all the great produce you have available would it even be worth it...???

Oh well if the others don't, you can easily come up with something
made up to blame on them anyway.

Now, here's the thing. There is a huge women's movement regarding
"equality". Here is something equal to get the ball rolling. Men should
lift the seat to pee. Women should put it down. That's equal.
Having said that, I don't practice it. But then, I'm a gentleman.
Everybody knows that.

Something minty? Mint ice cream or Junior Mints? I haven't eaten lamb
in thirty years, but I ate and loved it as a kid. My wife hates it
so...
Ducks Unlimited used to have a lamb feed in the Spring. Whole lambs
were roasted on a spit. As I was a part of the organization then,
that's the last time I ate lamb. Oh, lamb and mountain oysters.
I ate a hard roll sandwich full of mountain oysters, before someone
told me what they were. I thought they were short fat sausages. They
tasted fine, but I don't yearn for them.

Never did understand mint sauce or mint whatever with lamb. I was
thinking more like asparagus or even steamed artichokes.

Uh, no thanks to the mountain oysters.

Here is some "food" for your spiritual sustenance, graham...!!!

Exodus 16:12
12 "I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them, 'At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.' "

Proverbs 15:17
17 Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred..."

There you go. All good Christians are vegetarians.

Yeah, let's teach all our teenagers to use weapons and kill. That will

They do learn that. They also learn to have respect for authority,
follow orders, understand the importance of being responsible for your
actions. They get to know there are consequences for the wrong actions.

Are you suggesting we need no military? Would be nice, but I don't see
world peace any time soon.

The military is necessary, but that old-skool view that the army makes
real, responsible men of teenagers is wrong. Many of them become
gungho mental patients with PTSD. And they know how to use a gun.
Yoohoo, party time!

Defrosted a small bag of chili in the nuker, made some french fries in
the airfryer, got some shredded cheese jack/colby blend put all three
of them together nuked them to melt the cheese for one minute and I
was in heaven after that. Best chili cheese fries EVER!!

Of course, that's right.

When I mentioned CK's misspelling, he should have admitted it gracefully

I wonder if gluten deficiency can have this sort of effect.

I've only ever known one person who doesn't like beer or wine.
Considering that 25% of people are supertasters (or just in love with
themselves), it's safe to say that suoertasters like beer and wine
just as much as the rest of us mortals.
