That trip to Aldi's involved b.u.r.n.i.n.g. g.a.s. I had some oatmeal for breakfast and then some tea and toast with apricot jam. I wasted some time on the computer and then my wife and I went to the bank to submit our income tax and pay some bills. I went to the grocery store to get a fw things (I can go more often than once every two weeks). I went on weed patrol in my hard and was going to go for a bicycle ride, but my buddy came by on his motorcycle and easily convinced me I would have more fun on a motorcycle ride than a bicycle. It turned out he was right. We had a nice ride. |

I put a yellow sticky note on my cheque with a hand-drawn sad faced smily. |

As long as she is willing to look after them I them I have no problems with the way she does it. No need for a loan. We both arranged for income tax deductions on our pensions. Then we got CPP at age 60 and old age pension at 65, but had not arranged to have more income ta deducted. We end up having to pay every year, but my wife has her old age deposited to a separate account and when the time comes to file taxes and pay it comes out of that account. > Yesterday, I submitted my income tax by putting a tax form into the mail. > Yeah, I know, I'm starting to be a bit anachronistic myself. > I put a yellow sticky note on my cheque with a hand-drawn sad faced smily. I had a professor at university who love fighting with the income tax people. They used to try to hassle him every year but he would just tell them he would see them in court and he always won. |

But sensible! That way you have a paper and electronic record of paying. When our tax people screwed up and tried to charge me penalties, I had multiple lines of evidence to show them their error, which they corrected. |

If you lived in Bothell, Washington you would not be allowed to do that. The authorities would track you by your cell phone and then a helicopter would hover over your house. Aren't you glad you don't live in gulag like Ju-Ju? |

You mean, nowadays they simply move in with their boyfriends or with roommates, since most parents can no longer say "what will the NEIGHBORS think?!" The first time I heard of those pre-WWII women, I mistakenly assumed they meant "I got married because I didn't want to pay my own rent and bills." That MAY have been true for some women - then and now. However, it didn't occur to me, when I was younger and more naive about the early 20th century (which was before either of my parents was born) that those women's parents didn't WANT them to move out permanently before they got married, and such parents would often not be supportive if they wanted to go to college or get a job that would eventually pay real money. So if they dared to move out, they'd be stuck in dead-end jobs and risk estrangement - or worse - from their parents. On top of that, hiring discrimination against women was rampant back then. So, all in all, waiting for true love couldn't have been very tempting when you were in a hurry to leave home - and there was no shame in admitting that you were afraid to try to earn your own living, back then. Especially if, again, you were middle-class and your parents weren't pushing you out the door already. Lenona. |

| lenona321@yahoo.com: Apr 28 07:47PM -0700 Thank you for admitting that much. I do think that there's at least SOME more shame, these days, in suggesting that one's main ambition is never to have a paying job. (As in: "I don't really want babies either; I just want to be coddled my whole life.") Lenona. |

I wonder how much longer I can go? Maybe I've made my last one along with buying my last furnace. Maybe my wife forgot that she likes tuna casserole? leo |
