Would it be safe to assume that during a power outage, you wouldn't be using 70 kWh/day? That would be over twice the national average. What the heck are you running? Just kidding. I don't want to know.

It's the hot tub. We run the outdoor hot tub all year long, even when the
outdoor temperature is colder than your freezer.

We use about 20 kWh/day which costs about 7 bucks a day. I thought that was way too high but now I don't feel too bad about it.

Here's a great DIY trap - it's pretty simple. (Also, if you prefer, AND the bucket is as deep as the one in the video, you can put 2 inches of water in the bottom. You don't want the water to be too high, and you don't want it accessible to pets or children, of course.)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=03xMecBdVvk

One nice thing about it is that the video itself is non-verbal, so it's intelligible to any interested person in the world with Internet access!

I suspect one reason it works is that it doesn't look anything like a regular trap, even though any mouse or rat could detect the human smell on it.

There's also a video - from Cambodia? - that's even simpler. The cardboard was replaced by a sticky piece of long tubing, maybe an inch across, that was perpendicular and longer on one side of the wire than the other, so that the edge of the bucket would stop it. So, aside from the drill and the wire clipper, all you needed was the bucket, the "ramp," the thick wire, the tubing, and the bait. The problem was that the bait seemed to come off too easily.

Here's an even simpler one - AND it doesn't involve drilling holes in the bucket.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eVTI_0K9Dqg

Only thing is, rats, at least, seem to be too smart for it - we've all heard how smart rats are. After all, this one allows the rodent to see how deep the bucket is, unlike the one with the cardboard disk. But rats can escape from a 5-gallon bucket anyway, so you'd need a much bigger container.

Comment from Dave Jan:

"Was MASSIVELY infested w mice on Alaskin homestead. Made similar only used a .5 gallon fruit juice can & a board for the ramp. Smeared peanut butter on can & put a smear up the board. Worked GREAT! First night filled the bucket (5 gal) & the bears found it & ate the drowned mice..second night almost filled the bkt & bears came & ate them too. Every day fewer mice caught & by end of month, NO catches at all. We quit having mice destroy our food cache & bears got a free meal, WIN WIN!!"

(Only problem with that is, you don't want to attract bears to your property! Also, elsewhere, it said that you do NOT want animals - such as your cat or your pet snake - to eat them; the mice could easily be contaminated when they live in a human habitat.)

Also, someone mentioned that it's a good idea to make sure the bait is fresh. Then, someone else claimed to use the same Tootsie Roll over and over - with the cardboard-disk trap, maybe. You could use glue or a nail. At any rate, that bait wouldn't spoil easily.

Interesting. Do you two think she looks ugly with no makeup?
I think she looks quite attractive and much better than
the same face with bright red lipstick.

Get rid of the church lady clothes and mindset. Give her a
normal hairdo, normal clothes and a pleasant personality and
I would be interested if she was a neighbor.

Her lack of makeup would be the first thing I find attractive.

PS - only Popeye here is attracted to nuns.

That's all American gal and wonderful actress Delores Hart. She could have had it all but she gave it up for God. I suppose I'm okay with that. In the end, God is the bigger Elvis.

Another thing, if he wants bananas to eat later in the week, he should
tell the shopper that he wants his bananas toward the green side
rather than really ripe. He needs to mention things like that,
things he does when shopping.

I'll suggest that to him, thanks. Thing is, we live in a rather
isolated area with only a few grocery stores that offer the Instacart
option. I'm not sure how many employees Instacart actually has around
here. Hence my midunderstanding the groceries were selected by an
employee at the store rather than employed by Instacart.

It's wonderful. I don't know why everyone is not aware of this treat.
Maybe they just don't ever have leftover asparagus.

I don't consider inflicting cheese on poor, inoffensive asparagus to
be a treat. ;)

I rarely have leftover asparagus (always grilled), but I generally just
eat it cold or put it on a salad.

Hamburger was subsistence food and not a luxury ? I went to the store
a couple of days ago for charcoal while I was in town to fill our
propane tanks and decided to check out the meat cases . 80/20 ground
chuck is now at $6.59 per pound here . That's crazy , but a sign of the
times . Chicken is up a bit , boneless/skinless breasts (large , fresh)
are at $1.99 , pork is still at or near pre-scamdemic prices .

It has always depended on how much money you make. For me, hamburger
is just as cheap as it was in 1986. My salary has kept up with inflation
in the price of ground chuck.

I'll get back to you after I'm retired. It'll probably seem more expensive
then.

YOOSE need to become a Sock Puppet, John.
That's the only last chance I can see of you
ever getting a nursing job ever again.

Any agency or even client will do a Google search
for you to see what they can see. What they see will
doom your chance.

Your one time censor might even be forgiven.
Problem is all the other hits that Google shows
about all the crap you constantly write.

My theory which may or may not work out:

Assume a 2nd completely fake identity and use that
from now on to rant and rave, curse, talk about your
drug usage, etc.

Meanwhile, continue to post as John Kuthe often and write only
nice, friendly, and caring things. Portray yourself to
be the coolest nurse in the universe. Do this every day.

Maybe, in a few months, the first Google pages might show
your most recent nice posts.

Yoose should try the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde approach to usenet.
Use your new fake name for evil and your real name for good.

And if you ever do get another nursing job, do keep your
blood clean. One screw up and you are tested to be high,
you could lose your house and even end up in prison.

I have found out that the only way to survive in a newsgroup when someone is trolling or just being plain nasty is to ignore it and I do. It took me a long time to disassociate myself from wounding comments, they simply don't exist these days, I am in control not the abuser.

The Ryobi leaf blower would probably be adequate for the average urban
yard. I have a gas powered one that I was given. It is not completely
useless, but I have an electric Toro leaf blower that is so powerful
that my wrist gets sore when I use it. The cord is a PITA but the power
of that things makes it worthwhile.

When I am done here I have to go out and get my petroleum fart weed
whacker started up. I figure I will be at it for 45 minutes or more.
When I get into the ditch there will be stuff in there that a battery
powered line trimmer would not cut through.
