I can't imagine eating the Lipton/Knorr packet, so we're even.

I'd rather have plain, unsalted rice cooked in water.

That tells plenty about how your meals must taste.
"Julie Bove" <juliebove@frontier.com>: Jun 12 02:30AM -0700

The prices have gone way up in this area. I was going to buy beef for pot
roast, time before last but all of them were in the $50-$70 range! A package
of Laura's Lean Ground Beef was $10.38 when I went to the store yesterday. I
don't normally buy that kind but the Safeway I went to didn't have the grass
fed, organic that I usually buy.

I was at a bit of a disadvantage as I wasn't wearing my glasses and I can't
see to read without them. Not a meat package anyway. So I couldn't really
tell the sizes of things. The ground beef did not appear to be a pound
though. We are required to wear a mask while shopping and my glasses fog up
with the mask on. Hence, no glasses.

What I did see everywhere was packages of "Beyond", fake meat of all kinds.
Uh, no. Not for me. If I want a meatless meal, I'll have cheese or beans and
not something pretending to be meat.

I'm glad I stocked up on canned chicken and pouches of tuna before the price
went up on those! At least I'm assuming it did. If it didn't, it will soon.

Angela and I are going to the Walmart Neighborhood Market later. Might have
better luck there. The only meat I bought at Safeway was some chicken
tenders. I intended to make them for dinner with the stuffing but I got a
visitor who had already eaten, so I had a quick cheese sandwich instead.

I rarely have problems with rice but the last two times I cooked it, it was
undercooked. This was bulk, long grain while rice from Winco. Should cook in
20 minutes. The first failure was cooked for another 30 minutes with more
liquid. The end result was rice that tasted both under and over cooked.
Weird. The next time, I cooked it for another 20 min. with more liquid. Was
still a tad underdone.

Could the rice have been old? Will it cook like that when it's old? I dunno.
I only have a small amount of it less. Maybe a cup.

I think poor little joan is mad because She thinks I was trying to
steal her thunder. Thing is all of you in this group mean nothing to
me. She is upset because I get attention and I am not even trying. Yes
I eat gluten free but I am not trying to boast about it, yes I am
proud of the fact that I do eat gluten free and the changes it led to
with my body and the struggle it was to learn how to properly go
gluten free. I have no interest to impress anyone with the fact that I
am gluten free especially joan. As far as the religion stuff, only
the religious would have been offended and people who follow a
religion and believe in sky fairies are pretty much mentally ill
anyway.

Some people here hate it when other people's behaviour gets them a lot
of attention. They vent that feeling by giving even more attention to
those people. And then they get even more irritated so they give them
even more attention, etc. It's a vicious circle.

Not confusing at all. You would have taken $5 an hour, and you
would have been lucky to get it.

I don't blame you a bit. Later, after you have a little time
showing you really can work the job, you can get a better paying
job. But for now, you are damn lucky to have any job, and you'd
best try to hang onto it.

It won't take too many failed jobs until you will never be able to
get another job.

Good luck.

I took a job with no discussion of salary. Stayed there for 27 years.

The general manager where I worked at one time left and started his own
business. A year or two later he needed help for a couple of weeks and
asked me so I went there. At the end he paid me well. He knew what was
fair. A few months later he asked me to come on board and I agreed but
again, we did not discuss wages but it was a bit more than the last gig.

Would not have stayed if not properly compensated.

We had a secretary, I'm sorry, administrative assistant, at a company I
worked for. It closed but her husband was an entrepreneur who saw value in
me. Since his wife knew my salary, he hired me at that wage. I worked for
him for twenty one years, and I never considered asking for a raise.
All I had to do was my best to keep the company growing, and my
compensation grew. It helped that he was a no-nonsense, straight-arrow who
worked harder than any of us to make the company successful.
Then he sold it. Then it was sold again. Then I quit.

They look mighty tasty. My SIL, who baked biscuits and cookies from scratch
while she was here, split for who knows how many months to visit the vastly
bigger part of our family. I haven't checked for Mary B, but I will.
Meanwhile, we'll lose some weight.

Yes, but don't blame her. *YOU* are the asshole who posted
terrorist threats. That's a crime, and you are damn lucky you got
off (probably only because you are a known mental patient).
