Either bullshit or maybe a Canadian insurance thing. |

A few years ago my wife flipped our Mazda SUV (same as Ford Escape) on it's side and into the ditch on an iced road . There was significant front suspension damage so we elected to let it go and take the payout . We got full retail value but I don't recall which segment of our coverage it was listed under . We've had coverage thru State Farm for 50 years except for a short time right after we moved to Tennessee , and they've always treated me right . A couple of times they have paid me under uninsured coverage then gone after the other (at fault) driver and/or his/her insurance company . Allstate on the other hand screwed me when one of their insured hit me from behind and totaled my Harley - and nearly totaled me . Dragged it out for years then blamed my problems on other things that happened during that time . Good Hands my dyin' ass . -- Snag Yes , I'm old and crotchety - and armed . Get outta my woods ! |

There are probably lots of things that you have never heard of so it might be a good idea for you to do a little research before you start calling them liars. Here is one of many sites I found with a few key strokes using the keys "insurance write off". https://dulibaninsurance.com/blog/my-vehicle-is-a-write-off-but-i-want-to-keep-it/ "Usually, your insurer will offer a settlement depending on your car's actual cash value. Reimbursement is generally less if you decide to keep the write-off, and higher if you allow the insurance company to keep the salvaged vehicle. Below are factors that influence the actual cash value of your car." There are different types of write-offs. Generally, it is when they figure the cost of repair is greater than the value of the vehicle. It could be that the vehicle is irreparable and can only be used for parts. Ontario is one jurisdiction that has vehicle branding. That involves specific types of damage or theft. |

Painter's tape is for homeowners only. No profession painter uses it often at all. I've only used it to tape ladder mitts to keep them clean or the occasional baseboard to keep wall sprinkles off. Taping a window or anything else is a very time consuming joke and the results aren't good either. Best to paint neatly in the first place. And with measuring....never done it. Never necessary for any reason. > Grin, I do NOT plan to have this done but it would be fun to see if > just from my description, you had a ballpark idea. > I come up with about 100$ paint, another 20$ maybe in tape then labor. $100 in paint, for 4 gallons? You haven't priced good paint lately. Try over $50 per gallon. And no price for tape except a couple of dollars to keep wall sprinkles off of stained baseboard. Way too many variables to even guess a ballpark idea. Would have to see it. If you can do it yourself, do it. It might take you forever but it will save you a ton of money. Use your "tape" money for a good brush. Don't get fooled by those paint commercials that show taped off wood and room looks perfect once they pull it off. |

A completely empty room saves a bit of moving time. If you move furniture to the middle of the room, I'd rather do that myself. Doesn't take much time and I might need to keep a space to paint around lights and vents on the ceiling. I can say one thing... I would never paint any bedroom for $150 labor only. People just don't realize how much work it takes to do a good job. And if they are paying me, they expect a good job. Again too... the amount of woodwork involved plus the colors involved. Different colors in a room do cost more. |

My poor brother just could > not make her understand that it is a complete waste of money to paint > oak. She got her way. Oak is common for inside railings. It's hard and can hold up to lots of use. While it would look nice stained, many people want the painted look. For new oak railing and pickets, it would be at least a 3 coat process. Day one: Prime it all. Day two: sand and putty holes then one coat of finish. Day three: lightly sand then a 2nd coat of finish. Day four: Check it all out and maybe some touchup. Or even a quick 4th coat. For 20 feet total, I agree that 3 weeks is very overkill. Pretty much one coat per day and not even whole days. It was a 3-4 short days job. > I don't know how a guy can make money in the > house painting business working that slowly. He's probably not still in business. Making that little job last 3 weeks is a joke. |
| Gary <g.majors@att.net>: Jun 19 09:13AM -0400 Ed Pawlowski wrote: > Our house has one color (white) throughout but for a different color > accent wall they wanted about $300. That price sounds fair to me. Would have to buy a different gallon of paint, plus carefully paint the wall to try to cover it plus the slower cutting in around all edges for sharp lines. And then, possibly a 2nd coat depending on the color change. The second coat (if necessary) would go alot quicker than the first coat. |

T thought that I could put the tape on and slap on the pain and save myself a lot of work. I could not have been more wrong. These doors have 5 rows of 3 panes, so fifteen panes per door, two doors, two sides, a total of 240 pieces of trim. It took almost as long to tape it than I did to paint. Then I had to strip of those 240 pieces of tape, some of which stuck, and many of which had leaked. |

Take them out to warm up an hour before cooking and coated with Woos sauce. Then I season them right before searing in the pan. seasoning is - kosher salt, cracked pepper, a little garlic powder and some basil all pressed in on both sides. |

Both partners should notice things like lawns needing a trim, or bathrooms needing a dusting. The only 'chore' I have around the house is the dishes. This was arrived- at by consensus after the installation of the current dishwasher, which only lights the 'finished' LED for a few minutes after a cycle. (The prior dishwasher left it 'on' until the next door open.) Otherwise, there is a risk of considering unclean dishes as ready to go in the cupboard, as well as uselessly washing clean dishes. The work- around is to have one person in charge. |

He's building bookcases and I'll stain and polyurethane them. I always mow the lawn because the bumpy ride is too hard on his squashed lumbar disks.
