Noticed that too, but could be just the distorted reflection.

I would expect that to be the case with LA's population and
demographics.

Bloody hell, that's bad.

Tasmania is arguably the worst for road kill. Outback/inland Australia
has loads of Kangaroos and is a real problem, but Tasmania is on
another level when it comes to road kill. Tassie is still mostly
natural bush, forestry and agricultural, with windy rural roads.
Possums, deer, wombats, quolls, Tassie devils, wallabies and kangaroos
are everywhere at night. Sometimes it is impossible to avoid them
without risking an accident. I've even slowed down, passed a kangaroo,
only to have it catch up with me and then throw itself into the side
of my vehicle... <roll eyes>.

Don't worry. The Tasmanian right-wing is busy chopping it all down,
selling it to China and buying it back as toilet paper.

One thing I learned from Live PD was to guard against the idiots and low
lifes by buying insurance. I was amazed at how many scofflaws are on
the road.

Its like a regular college but has a much higher tuition. Few can
afford it.

It does make you wonder sometimes if you're the only person on the road who
has insurance and a properly maintained vehicle.

It depends on the insurance policy. Coverage for hit and run drivers
usually falls under collision because that's the only reason you ever
encounter a hit & run driver. They wouldn't "run" if they hadn't done
damage. Stands to reason they're uninsured (or driving a stolen car or
committing a criminal act if they "run".) The onus is on the owner of
the car to have insurance adequate to cover their own liability as well
as collisions - except for John. He'd rather pay $4100 than a couple
hundred more a year for full coverage.

I'm not a car expert by any means but it sure looks like the rear
suspension is f'd up.

FWIW There are about 8.5 million licensed drivers in Ontario and the
province suspends close to 90,000 licenses every year. That means than
more than 1% of drivers are getting suspended each year. Some of those
may be short term suspensions for relatively minor offenses, but others
are longer term penalties and many are for unpaid fines. The latter
often accumulate multiple convictions and might owe thousands of dollars
in fines that they have no intention of paying.

I watched an episode of Judge Judy this afternoon. She said to the
defendant who had been driving without insurance, "You committed a crime
just by getting behind the wheel." She says it all the time. People
claim they didn't realize it lapsed or they were going to pay it but
something came up. Or the dog ate my homework.

I've always made sure I had full coverage because I cannot count on
anyone else who is driving to have insurance.

John is a fool who thinks it is somehow noble to pay $4100 out of pocket
rather than purchase sufficient insurance from those evil companies.
I'm also betting he's never bothered to read an insurance policy (the
DEC pages lay it all out pretty simply) in his life.

This is about the third time I've seen the word "scofflaws" and the
second time was Ophelia asking what it means. I wondered at the time if
she doesn't own a dictionary.

Look at the damage. It is consistent with his account of an incident in
his driveway. The damage in that picture is too low for a hit and run.

You need at least half a brain to use a dictionary and she might be a
little short in that department.

I don't know that I've ever used it in my entire life but I did use it
twice in 23 hours after seeing it here. RFC can do that to you.

The word of the day is . . .
Antagonize
cause (someone) to become hostile.

Used in a sentence:
I have a couple of synonyms for it but to post the names would be to
antagonize.

Same here. I generally keep my cars for many years and I don't want to
drive a rattle trap that looks like it's been in a rodeo.

Since he only carries liability I wonder what an uninsured rider on his
policy would cost per year? A L.O.T. less than the $4100 to get that
jelly bean repaired. But I'm wondering if there were other things he
had done that he's not sharing with us? That's hard to imagine as he's
shared everything but bank and credit account numbers.

No and Google is not available where she claims she lives (Scotland) but
I have my suspicions it's actually North Korea.

You know better than that. :)

The hawk was resting in the shade. It's been *very* hot here.

It's rare for me to see a hawk on the ground, especially that close to
the house. The last time that happened was in 2008 when my mother was
still alive. That one was a full-grown hawk with an astounding wingspan
when it took off. We looked at it together out the window. Oddly, that
bird and this one were sitting in nearly in the same spot.

Are you paying any attention to Tropical Storm Isaias? It looks like it
might be the first this season to maybe get stronger and head up the
east coast of Florida.

I'm late to the thread and can't view the first of it without a hassle,
but Olivia was Joan Fontaine's sister if it hasn't been posted
previously. They're the only two siblings who ever won Best Actress/Actor
Oscars. Of course, I googled.
When her name came up on TV, I assumed that she had been dead for thirty
years, but I was wrong. Joan lived a long life too.

I liked them both, both were great actresses but still feuded until Joan's
death. Professional jealousy or sibling rivalry that was never resolved?

Picked fresh and wet from on and off rains all day! Washed by Mother Gaia Herself! The basil anyway, the tomato was red and inside on the Kitchen Table. I used 3 thick slices of some kind of take home and bake more bread, EVOO, freshly ground black pepper, shredded parmesan cheese (then toaster oven again!), chop 2/3 of a fresh tomato, a mess of fresh wet basil, cleaned well, and some shredded Gruyere cheese all mixed together and toasster ovened again, cooked, eaten! :-)

I discovered eating fresh stuff growing from my garden and long time ago! :-)

The Science channel has a series called Super Factories. The particular
episode I'm watching has a segment on the Heinz factory in the UK. They
do canned beans there. They make 4500 cans per minute, about 4 million
cans a day. 1200 tons of dried beans are shipped in every week.

Each bean is inspected by lasers and split beans or pebbles are rejected
but not wasted. They become fertilizer.

Tomato paste comes from Spain, Italy, California Same spices since 1892
are added. Beans are cooked in the can using rotary steam cookers.

If you are looking for it on cable, it is episode 3 and will repeat or
be available on demand. The title is NASA Rocket Factory.
