Anything special landing on your dinner table tonight?

It's going to be pork chops here again done in the air fryer seasoned with
Morton's Nature Seasoning of which I have added some other spices to.
Frozen broccoli which will be cooked in the microwave and finished off
with melted cheese will be the vegetable to accompany the chops.

Get the smelling salts out now as the cheese that will be melted on top
of the broccoli is . . . (trumpet fanfare! 🎺) V e l v e e t a!

Has everyone returned to consciousness???

Snatch-blocked chicken dry-brined 24 hours and possibly grilled or
more likely in the oven. Fresh Green beans or broccoli. And
fondant potatoes if done in the oven.

Sounds boring, yes. Icky also once you add boiled apricots it seems
worse. Maybe it's one of those 'have to taste it so see the charm sort
of things?

The original recipe was from 1953, very different eating then.

UK was still on food ration at the time, also... one had to "make do with what one had"...

Even a queen couldn't get more than 4 peppercorns. Maybe she could,
but it wouldn't have looked good to the public, being only eight
years after the end of the war.

Rationing was easing then but things like candy were still
unavailable.

My father used to keep bottles of that in the fridge. I haven't seen
him drink RR in years. I imagine it must have been cheap when he was in
college, or something. Old habits die hard?

Back then, it is what was available. Only a few national brands and a
lot of local stuff, many long gone.

Coors was never shipped east of the Rockies, Lite beer did not exist.
Most here have never heard of Ortliebs, Schmidts, Esslinger, popular
brands from Philadelphia.

This is one of the reasons I carry disinfectant wipes with me when I
travel. And tissues.

Jill, if you didn't drink so much, it wouldn't be such an emergency.

I don't travel long distances by car anymore but yes, when I did I
always had those things in the car. You can't always wait for
"someplace cleaner".

Did you ever get leg muscle cramps from "hoovering"?

Well, maybe the wrap appeals one of these days.

I suspect that Gary meant that he has no wife himself, and is retired,
so he has lots of free time. That's how I read it, anyway. I don't
think that Gary was jabbing at Ed's late wife. I'd sure hope not, anyway.

Oops, I guess I forgot that I posted that before. In my defense, I
haven't signed into the post image site in a long time (I can't see my
old uploaded pictures). I frequently wonder what happened to it. I
decided it was best to leave it there and not intervene. It was in some
neighborhood in Pittsburgh when I was picking up scrap metal, which I
haven't done in a few years.

I have no clue; this was taken in a neighborhood somewhere vaguely near
Sheraden (down hill, the less crappy area). I think it was several
blocks from the Windgap bridge near McKees Rocks. They threw out better
stuff on trash nigh in nicer neighborhoods, so I frequented this area.
For fun, when I see this post later, I'll try to figure out where this
was on an over-head map.
