Why not... choice, a medical reason, or cost?
Can you walk to stores, can you pedal a bike?
My mother never drove, she pulled a wire cart up to the Avenue for
shopping... some heavy items she had delivered, like beverages, the
seltza guy delivered siphon bottles, and all flavors of soda.

In fact one could buy all the groceries and dry goods they'd needed
from push carts and horse drawn carts making a steady stream on the
Brooklyn streets; fresh meats, fresh seafood, fresh produce, fresh
eggs, all sorts of clothing, even a shoemaker-cutlery sharpener, all
kinds of dairy, fresh baked goods, could buy anything you could think
of right at your front door... the Chinky laundry even picked up your
soiled clothes and delivered your clothes back in pristine condition
and expertly folded and wrapped. Carts came by with any hardware you
could imagine. To hear Kootchie you'd think he invented electric
vehicals... NYC had electric trolleys, electric busses, and still has
electric trains... and many businesses used electric delivery trucks,
diaper service was a biggie. Electric vehicles are meant for mass
movement, an electric vehicle using OUR ROADS for moving just a single
driver is the most idiotic, selfish, and wasteful conception. Kootchie
has no reason whatsoever to use any vehicle, let the otiose bag of
shit WALK! That slug doesn't go anywhere anyway.

That's what happens when Trump finally tells the truth. The MANGAs think they get thrown under a bus. Mostly, they walked in front of the bus without even looking.

One wonders about the state of mind of this 35yr-old Repuglican Trump
supporter when she states (on the BBC):

"It was just heart-breaking to watch what was going on and the behaviour of
protesters is just not like the Trump people I've been around. If it did
come from any conservatives, then I condemn it. There's no excuse for
violence.
It doesn't change my support for Trump. The people that love Trump, that's
not going to change no matter if he gets a second term or not. It just
means we're going to hold out for 2024 and hope either he runs again *or
his kids do.*

Our country is going to go downhill over the next four years if Biden does
take office. I'm actually moving today out of the city into the suburbs of
a Republican county because I am afraid of how Democratic counties will end
up under a Biden presidency.

We're going to catapult towards socialism and communism."

I certainly wonder what she thinks "socialism" and "communism" are.

If anyone wants socialism and communism they could just move to Canada, lol...!!!

OR they could pick any large US city governed by Democrats - Chicago, NYC, Atlanta, Frisco, Portland, Seattle, DC, Los Angeles, Minneapolis...they've gone full - bore socialist already, and Sleepy Joe and VP Kameltoe will boost them forwards to the final victory of communism..."Havana and Caracas, here we come...!!!"

I think they've been brainwashed. A few people in rfc as well. They
really think Biden's a socialist or a communist or a Marxist or all
three, whereas he's just a middle of the road US president who won't
change much. But as Obama said: Trump supporters live in their own
alternate reality. That's why they don't make sense to us and we don't
make sense to them.

Does it have to be a _large_ city governed by Democrats? I'm pretty happy with
Ann Arbor.

Ok, I don't live in the city. Mainly because I don't want to live cheek by jowl with
my neighbors. City life just isn't for me.

An Ann Arbor would be okay, it's in a place like Chicago where the rot has *really* set in...Ann Arbor I'm sure has a somewhat transparent government, and is not yet 1000% corrupt like Chicago has been for decades...

It's hard to understand Trump supporters. I have a friend who, despite
having no horse in the race, is a big fan of Trump. When I commented to
her about people starting to realize what a liar Trump is she was very
defensive and blamed yesterday's actions on Democrat lies and a corrupt
liberal press. This is a very intelligent and well educated woman. She
sits well to the right on political issues, but this thing about Trump
is hard to understand.

It is hard to imagine how anyone could talk about Democrats lying when
their idol lies every time he opens his mouth. There is that old saying
about how to be able to tell if a politicians (or lawyer) is lying....
their lips are moving. There has never been a better example of this
than Trump.

At the moment, most of us do, because renewable infrastructure simply isn't there.

I often see pieces of wind towers being trailered down the main road near my house.
Someday, but not today, we'll have all renewable energy. Right now it's about 15%
of the electricity generated in Michigan. That's a 50% increase over what we had
in 2015.

Tweets can be 280 characters. If you eliminated unnecessary repetition,
you probably could manage it. Of course, that would require self-discipline,

Lol...GM reminds me of Obama, e.g. "leading from behind":

https://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog/cc-newsstand/curbside-newsstand-gm-unveils-new-logo-and-marketing-image-campaign-everybody-in-into-evs-that-is/

"GM's $27 billion EV fervor has reached an inflection point. Not in actual new products, which are still in the pipeline, but in a transformation of the company's image, including a new logo and major image/marketing campaign, to warm up the public to what's coming (autonomously) down the electric superhighway.

"There are moments in history when everything changes. Inflection points. We believe such a point is upon us for the mass adoption of electric vehicles," Deborah Wahl, GM's global chief marketing officer"

I guess it's time to stop with all the "GM Mark of Excellence" digs, and start digging the new, new GM.

Here's a taste of what's coming to your tv or device. The campaign features Malcolm Gladwell, author of "The Tipping Point," professional surfer and shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton, fitness instructor Cody Rigsby and gamer Erin A. Simon. And the usual endless cutaways of regular folks like you and me in all sorts of idealized settings synchronized to the script. Just who did this kind of thing first? Sorry, but it's getting a bit old. In fact, I've become very allergic to this kind of thing. But that's just me…

" 'Everybody In' demonstrates our intent to lead, while inviting others — policymakers, partners, individuals — to play an active role in moving society forward, whether that's helping to expand infrastructure, advocating for progress in their communities or simply taking an EV for a test drive to learn about the benefits of EV ownership," Wahl said."

I rather liked this one from 1996 better, for GM's first electric car, the EV1. Hard to believe that's now 25 years ago. I'm probably on the spectrum, since I seem to like appliances coming to life better than actors mouthing… corporate propaganda.

Getting back to the present, GM says that the new logo is "vibrant blue to signify the clean skies of a zero-emissions future". Naturally. And the "m" is underlined to create the shape of an electrical plug within the negative space. I thought it was to represent the Ultium battery pack underpinning all of the 30 some EVs that will be emitted from GM's factories in the coming some years. But in that case, it should have been longer, underneath both letters.

The new logo is intended to be "less severe" than the current one. Lower case letters are "More approachable".

"We felt a real need to show the world a different aspect of what the company is. The lower case was a key part of that", Wahl said.

Of course. upper case letters are so 20th century. soon nobody will use them anymore. very unapproachable.

So what ever happened to hydrogen? i thought that was going to be the future for gm..."

</>

From the "Comments" section:

"Am I the only one who sees an elephant standing on a little platform?

----

If the new GM (sorry, gm) logo is flipped upside down, it could be the new Warner Brothers logo, since clearly all companies should transition to lower case letters and invite policymakers to join then in a partnership.

WB debuted their redesigned logo last year, to a similar shade of Happy Blue, which I guess is the latest thing. Well, at least it's not gray. Personally, I don't watch Warner Bros. movies because their corporate image comes off as non-approachable… lower case logo letters would completely change my mindset...

----

"I predict GM is going to fail, its chairman is not Musk, and the company is not set up to be a new economy company like Tesla. Acting as arm chair CEO, I would follow Ford step to eliminate car production and build only pickup trucks with large internal combustion engine, get the company as profit as possible. Gradually take down and eliminate the legacy labor costs. On side setting up a engineering company with VC backings concentrating on vehicle design except the electric drive train and battery technology to tailor need of any potential EV makers, there will be a lot of them coming up soon. — I make assumptions that GM really knows how to design a vehicle. This gives GM a chance transforming itself into a engineering company, knowledge base economic sector and moving away to make vehicles from ground up to after sale warranty and safety recall. In my views building GM EV with 100% in-house development and manufacturing will not work in today US, GM also doesn't have a good record to carry out large projects successfully in last few decades.

Side note here is GM should notice Toyota, arguably the best and most profitable vehicle company in this earth continues sitting on the sideline. It continues believing if EV were the future it is in the fuel cell form, no lithium battery, it has the second generation of fuel cell car this year. More its chairman openly questioned whether there is enough electricity generation capacity in Japan to support EV power if Japanese government bans internal combustion engine in 2035 — i made similar arguments on this site before, Elon Musk recently questioned the generating capacity too..."
