Yes, I have to remind folks now and again as 'cshenk' isn't obvious.
Graham isn't either. Frankly, most of us don't really care.

Smile, and I've worked so long in a predominantly male career field
(and still do) that subconciously I probably seem to project a 'male
attitude' to many. Some do not like that. It's weird but it's also
like some men expect me to be apologetic for being good at what I do?
Shrug.

I can't sew worth a damn...Don does the laundry (but I know how at
need). Conversly I'm good at woodworking, detail painting,
refinishing, most handyman jobs, basic plumbing, building decks and
wheelchair ramps, hanging doors, intalling windows, wallpapering,
refinishing wood floors and replacing wood stairs plus other handy
things. Don holds my hand in the woodworking tools section so I can
only fill the cart one hand at a time (grin).

I'm more than a trace but not raised in it so it doesn't matter.

Same. I just snip the drivel out or ignore him completely.

I am what First Americans call a Two Spirit. I carry Two Spirits within my Spirit, Male and Female. Sexually I'm %99.44 Heterosexual but I DO like my self sexually too, so the %0.59 part!

Your STEALING of "First American" concepts is "WHITE Cultural Appropriation"...you are a cultural THIEF...!!!

And "sexually", you are simply a CHRONIC masturbator...and 1000% so...

No need to mention what many shortbread bakers already know. I have
done a considerable amount of baking over the years and there aren't
many recipes that instruct you to eat things right away. One exception
would be Vichyssoise.

You certainly have to let short-bread and the French equivalent sablés cool
thoroughly to set the texture properly. But aging? That's staling more
likely.

We didn't flatten the curve in spring - we crushed it. We are now
paying the piper.

Actually, it might be just the thing. I don't think she will get one,
but if she did, and got *this type*, she would shortly learn to love it.

It's the others with all the bells and whistles that either make too
much or are too fancy that she won't like. I have the same model. I
paid a bit more for a pretty red one because it makes me smile.

For 3$ less she can get one without the steamer but that's 3$ well
spent to have.
"cshenk" <cshenk1@cox.net>: Jan 02 10:44AM -0600

You'll see this in a post to Julie but here's the recipe.

For now, appx 2lbs of frozen boneless pork, portioned off a larger one
and vacuum sealed April 2020. Properly sealed with quality material,
is good for 2 years. This is placed unwrapped and frozen in the
crockpot.

Amounts are estimated by eye:

1.5 TB sweet cane vinegar
1 TB Spiced vinegar
2 ts worstershire
2 ts Chile spiced Patis (Mothers Best from the Philippennes)

Turn crockpot on low. Important to NOT add other broths, water or BBQ
sauce yet. Adding other liquids at this stage just weaken the flavor
of the meat in the end. Important to use low at the start because
otherwise you could burn the bottom.

I'll flip it every 30-45 minutes or so as the fats and other liquids
leech out.

To this stage, it is gluten free but check your products if you need
that.

Later, it will be swimming in it's own juices and falling apart when
you try to turn it. This is roughly at the 6 hour point if I shift to
medium after the outer core is defrosted and there is about 1 cup
liquid in the bottom. Don't add more liquid to push that. The trick
is low and slow to make the best flavor.

Once falling apart enough you can tell it is shreddable, decant the
liquid and toss.

Return to crockpot (if removed) and shred with forks to your liking.
If still firm enough, remove a few slices for samwich uses.

Add family choice of BBQ sauce and mix. We like the Harris Teeters
brand Hickory mixed with Sweet Baby Rays original.

Store excess in freezer tight containers (I use masking tape with date
and what it is on them) and freeze up to 6 months.

For just Don and me, this will be 10-12 servings but for many,
1/4-1/3lb a serving is more average. We will freeze 3 at 1/2lb
portions and the rest will be eaten this week.

For me, this is something old to bring to the New Year. In many
cultures, nothing speaks to prosperity better than an abundance of pork!

Taco salads aren't my style to make but I'm happy to find them at
potlucks!

I do make somthing a bit like them though, with a more middle-eastern
or india touch. Anise seed or garam masala (or both) for the meat
seasoning then the rest is similar. Often with a brown gravy added
then the lettuce and tomatoes.

Both sound good!

Sometimes I get more 'soup' than I want but it goes into a veggie
trimmings broth (just won't be a clear one then) and works well there.
If it were crockpotted, I'd go 6 cups liquid from the seeming mix
(adding more if it seemed right as it developed).

I like the egg in my corn muffins but I seem to recall you are slightly
fat intolerant so reducing that egg with applesauce is a good call.

Right now I have a 2lb or so hunk of boneless pork butt out defrosting.
It's from a cut down larger one we reportioned and vacuum sealed at
home to more usable sizes for us. Frozen last summer.

Southern pulled BBQ pork likely. I've not made it since probably when
we got that pork butt last summer and the last of the frozen leftovers
got used around Halloween. Thats a really simple dish to make and I
can then center in on a Lentil sort of trial with the mini-crockpot.

Part of my New Year tradition is to make something familiar, and
something new. This will suit!

Perhaps if you cleaned your bathtub more often you wouldn't need
lye... we clean our tub with a Loofa on a stick and a small bit of
dishwashing liquid (Dawn) after each use and it stays sparkling... the
walls are fiberglass and cover the walls and the ceiling. And we only
use it for showers... the shower head (Delta) pulls out on a hose for
rinsing.
This is the best shower head we've ever used:

Reminds me of alcohol in the late 1970's when the legal age in IL was 18 for beer and wine and I was 19YO so I drank a LOT of free beer that Summer!

And the U.S. House of Reps already voted to legalize cannabis nationally but the Rep packed Senate nixed it! :-(

The drinking age in Ontario was 21 until four months before my 21st
birthday. Then it dropped to 18, two weeks after my younger brother
turned 18. The drinking age in NY state was 18 and all the teens from
the Niagara Peninsula used to head "over the river" to Niagara Falls NY
and Buffalo to drink. Not only was the legal age lower, they really
didn't care and we were as young as 15.

All our old hangouts went belly up, It got even worse for the American
bars when NY raised the drinking age to 21 because the young crowd came
over here to drink. After a couple years the drinking age here was
raised to 19. We had Gr.13 in high school and they didn't want younger
students partying with those who were of age.

I saw something funny one day. My son had a friend who looked much older
than the others. I saw him coming out of the beer store one night
carrying at least six 6 packs of beer. Some were the same brand, so it
was obvious that he was buying it for his friends. We walked around the
corner and slipped and fell in the ice and there was beer spraying all
over the place.

That seems right. Don is the one that cooks the split peas. I end up
using the whole but in crockpot cooking so no soaking used.

Looks like a pretty sturdy whisk! Mine's a lighter weight but works
fine for this type project.
