Is there a more English weapon than the longbow? I think not. OTOH how
did the natives tribes of the Americas get their hands on the bow and
arrow? What's the deal with that?

The supporters of the Bern are a worrisome lot. This is not an isolated
case - unfortunately. My guess is that they're gonna fuck things up.
That's the breaks.

I think it's good that Sanders is doing so well. Maybe in 10 or 20
years someone like him will actually be elected. For a long time that
was unthinkable. Americans have a history of voting against the
interests of normal people and for the interests of rich people and
corporations.

Nevertheless, he has one very sick follower in Bryan.

The bow and arrow is common to most cultures. The English took it to a
new level with the long bow, and they were lucky enough to have access
to the yew tree whose wood is exceptionally suited for the purpose.

I had a gay tenant who was a construction foreman on high rise
buildings in NYC... he was a good mechanic, he did carpentry,
plumbing, electrical work, etc. He never called me to repair
anything, he just did it, he even installed a new heating boiler, I
only found out because one day I was driving by and saw the old boiler
sitting in the side yard, eventually it disappeared. Basically he
didn't want me there because every few months he had a different man
of the month, but I didn't care because so long as he paid his rent
his life style was no concern of mine... and in fact each year he'd
mail me a a year's worth of post dated rent checks, so I never had to
hunt him down to pay rent. He lived there for more than 15 years,
until one day I notified him I was retiring and was putting the house
up for sale, a few days passed and he decided to buy it. He was
silly, he could have bought it long before as I had previously offered
it to him, so in the end he paid for it twice. He's still living
there and has about seven years left to go on his twenty year
mortgage. I know all about him because the realtor in town is a good
friend of mine, and his friend as well, she's who brought him to rent
the house and she's as lezzie as they come... even though at the time
she was about forty eight years old she had a very hot bod, with huge
bazooms... too bad for me she was lezzie, because we got along well
and we're still good friends. I've met lots of homos, most were
upstanding citizens with very good jobs... my brother is a faggot,
he's a big time hospital administrator, for many years he ran a
Catholic Charities Hospital in Chicago. My Brother served as a petty
officer in the US Navy, he's always been an upstanding citizen,
nothing like the unemployable Bwrrryan 4F faggot... that way under
weight skinny malink creep who could never make it through boot camp.

'Democracy' is a complete load of shit and it's about time people
asked themselves what it actually *is* as applied in reality.

Yes, but the alternative always ends with Stalin, Kim Il Thingie or
Fidel.

Liz had nothing to do with it! That crooked GG in cahoots with Fraser
was *totally* responsible and he ignored the confidence motion that the
LP immediately passed. That was a black day in Aussie politics.

Well, I don't view those as viable alternatives but at least they
*know* they're not supposed to be a democracy and live under
authoritarian rule. The *idea* of democracy is fine but in practice it
gets abused by some and the rest of the population is bamboozled by
empty rhetoric.

Our blackest day. The then PM, Gough Whitlam, wasn't a 'team player'
in the same sense that Kennedy wasn't a team player, which is why he
had to go. Whitlam wanted to close the U.S bases in Australia, which
was the last straw (amongst several other straws).

To address your comment re: Fraser and the GG, yes, they were
certainly instrumental in his dismissal, but there was much, much more
going on in the background.

True. But if you get on a soapbox on a Launceston street corner and
start telling people that Turnbull is a lunatic, you won't be put in
jail. Isn't that a comforting idea? :)

It is. But then that largely hinges on what you actually wish to say.
Calling Turnball a lunatic is obviously inoffensive (to Australians at
least). There's plenty one could say that will get you in trouble
though.

I also don't take much comfort with comparing one turd (democracy)
with another turd (communism or anything else). Actually, I should
qualify that by saying pre-1963 style western democracy was a
reasonable comprise IMO. It was still far from perfect but on the
whole a LOT fairer and actually democratic in practice.

It seemed so simple at the time. I left Australia around then. I hope to
visit next January.

I'm sure all this talk of your backwater hovel of a country is fascinating to you savages, but it's REALLY boring to everyone else.

I wonder how many people here would not care how much work it was if the
labour was being performed by slaves. Nothing is too hard, too heavy,
too awkward, too hot or too wet if it is being done by someone who has
to do what they are ordered to by their master or overseer.

Even special braw BARS...:

http://jezebel.com/87-year-old-barkeep-fights-for-her-right-to-hang-bras-f-508879399

"Holler House, which first opened its doors in 1908, started decorating its ceilings with bras 45 years ago when owner Marcy Skowrosnki and some of her probably badass friends had a few too many and threw their bras on the skis hanging from the ceiling. "We all got bombed, all these girls, and we just decided to take our bras off and hang them up," said Skowronski. A perfectly acceptable explanation, in my opinion. Nearly fifty years and no doubt thousands of PBR's later, the bar has amassed a great collection of brassieres, a testament to the patriarchy-subverting power of malt beverages.

But after decades of tossing brassieres to the ceiling, some shenanigan-hating city inspector visited the bar and was all like, "Down with the bras! These despicable boobie contraptions be an abomination!" Actually, she said the bras were a fire hazard and told Skowronski to take them down. But Skowronski tells it better:

So here comes this gal and she's walking in here like Lady Astor's pet horse, you know, and she says she wants those bras down because they're a fire hazard. Now how can a bra be a fire hazard unless someone is wearing it? Honest to God..."

My MIL was literally dying. We knew she did not have long. Her
husband had died. Although she had a niece visit, nothing made a
difference to her. She wouldn't even walk outside to the mailbox. She
didn't cook or eat. When you talked to her on the phone she sounded
dreadfully ill. She lost weight, Wouldn't wear one of those
thingamajigs to call for help. She took despondency to a whole new
level. Family coerced her into going to an assisted living facility.
After just a couple of months there she had changed beyond
recognition. Her voice and mind are so strong now you wouldn't think
she was 93 but 10-15 years younger. She has friends, activities to
look forward to all sorts of things. I always thought this kind of
place was where you went to die. She certainly discounts that idea.
