She's 151.5 right now and doing a breakstep diet one day a week (so she doesnt set point too hard). It wasn't really anything major. More like she didn't get taught about calories and that if you take in more than you burn, you gain weight. She now knows now how to count the up in a rough fashion and when I am cooking, I work it out so she knows how much is sane on a food we made. She picks what to eat now with a better idea calorie knowledge is all. Back when I was in JH/HS, this was common knowledge taught in school. It came along with what foods might make pimples worse (based on knowledge of the times) and general healthy food pyrimids (of the times). She'll probably hit about 149lb by late April (giving leeway for a big meal for her MEPS checkin). Running speed is main focus now and that's like the diet, all on her to meet her goal. |

Pot. Kettle. Black. >Cindy Hamilton Yea, but on usenet, you are not being targetted by advertisers, you dont have to give away your identity to register, and you dont even need to use your real name. When the internet was first started, the users were just based on user names which you created. Back then, the internet was supposed to be entirely free (except for paying a ISP provider to get you online). Back then advertising was banned and people who did it were all considered spammers and were tossed offline. I know this because I was there. I was one of the first people to use the internet in my city. Prior to that, I was using a BBS (local bulletin board), to contact others, and we had in person parties and get togethers, so we got to know most of the people we spoke to online. Usenet was the FIRST socal media, but it was done right.... Back then, it was mostly used by universities to share information about the topic that was related to that newsgroup. Back then, people were helpful, and respectful most of the time. I should mention that this was BEFORE the web even existed. The internet was mostly usenet and email back then. Little or no graphics. People did ascii are to make their messages look nice. It was a whole different world. Even the early web was totally different than today. The early web was very useful and informative. It added pictures to the mostly text based usenet, and allowed for persons to create their own websites. Geocities was the best. It was a community of people who each had their own "space" in an organized manner, on the internet. It had no, set appearance, or rules to follow (unlike Facebook). You could be yourself and express in your own manner. Some of those sites were true works of art, while most were just text with a few pictures. No one was banned from posting anything, unless someone was downright abusive or vulgar. If you wanted to post "how to make bombs", you did. If others did not like it, they did not go to that site. Today's internet is not even close to the early days. If I rated it now, it would get a very low score for usefulness and satisfaction. Back in the 90's I would have given it a very high score. Back then, just going online was fun. Now it's a battle, because everytime you go to a site, you are fighting off a zillion advertisers, spammers, and identity thefts. Since google decided that they own the internet, it's gone downhill very fast. I only see it getting worse. I suspect it will end up like the CB radio craze of the 70s. It will soon be dead as far as personal sharing. It will nothing more than a place to buy and sell. And even that is questionable, since sites such as ebay are now charging sales tax and other issues which have sent me back to local brick and mortar stores. The future of the internet is NOT bright. If you dont want to get caught up in the worst parts of it, avoid the three worst sites. Facebook, Google, and Amazon. |
