Pan frying yields a different result.

I have a gas grill. Why not light it for two burgers rather than
using the stove?

I'd rather cook with A/C and clean one pan than spend time grilling in
the hot sun with biting bugs than clean a grill grate. Grilling is
sort of okay when there's a group for socialing but not for just the
two of us. Actually I no longer enjoy cooking for a crowd of peasants
who don't return the favor. We no longer treat friends and family to
dinner, especially since there's no reciprocity. Now we only treat a
handful who live locally, amd they treat us. We tired of hearing how
they had to travel for two hours to get here and yet they never
invited us. These days we only bother with locals. we don't waste our
energies with one way friends/relatives who are really just
aquaintences, Since our parents passed we have altered our
allegences, We got along famously with our mother/father inlaws but
since they are gone the other inlaws can rot.

As efficient as we can get! Sure there are line and hysteresis losses, but that's physics! The Universe is NOT MATHEMATICALLY PRECISE! Just approximated by mathematics! Planck's Constant notwithstanding! :-)

I've done a LOT of camping! I can make do in power outages! When I lived in The Big House (4621 Westminster) and we had an electrical power outage in STL just at the end of a very hot Summer my housemate Sara correctly pointed out that there were beers in the refrigerator that were in danger of getting warm, so we had to rescue a couple! :-)

I used to have an electric hot water heater. When I switched over to
high efficiency natural gas I got a gas hot water heater too. It heats
up water much faster than the electric heater did. At the time I
switched, my oil bill equal billing was $300 a month for 10 months of
the year. I don't bother with equal billing now because heating costs
are a fraction of what the oil bill was. My highest gas bill was just
under $160, and that includes the hot water.

My brother has a gas clothes dryer. He says that clothes dry faster and
there is less lint, which translates to less wear and tear on the fabric
in the dryer.

Well, John, aside from having mental health issues, is a bit of a
misinformed idiot. He can't see the pollution from his coal fired
generators so he thinks it is completely clean. FWIW, most of my
electricity is clean. I am about 15 miles from Niagara Falls, a major
source of clean electrical generation. A couple miles in the opposite
direction is a major wind power farm.

I can get by without lights and television for a while. My big problem
with the power is out is loss of water. I am on a well and cistern. When
the power is out the water pressure system is kaput.

Tankless on-demand uses gas, the only electric is for the LED
temperature indicator, milliwatts.
We love the tankless on-demand hot water, there's no water tank to
maintian and hold at temperature... takes 30 seconds for hot water. We
can regulate the water temperature up to 120ºF but we keep it set at
115ºF which is more than enough for bathing, still need to add some
cold.
It's impossible to maintain utility bills with tenants, which is why
I always had full house rentals, tenants were totally responsible for

Yes, for yours. He wants to put in an electric one. Lots of power
needed. 100A for hot water plus all the other heaters he want to put in.

I'm sold. My parents have saved tens of thousands of bucks with their all gas kitchen. OTOH, I remember their kitchen as being hellishly hot when I was a kid. A gas kitchen in the tropics ain't much fun.

Electric cars are the future. OTOH, one would have to be crazy to opt for electric heating if gas was available. My guess is that you're heating your water with electric because gas is not available. You're so insanely happy about being forced to buy an electric water heater? That's real cute. :)

I can imagine. I live in a moderate climate. I don't mind cold weather,
though I do get fed up with extended periods of cold weather. OTOH, my
countrymen and I tend to melt when the temperature rises over 80 F.

Thank you so much for asking, Nellie! I'm fine, trying to

hard but it's almost all done.

We did manage to get something done today that I say I will
every spring but never do, went strawberry picking. That was
fun. Think we'll make it a regular thing.

Thanks again for the shout out, really made my day.

Wow, I'm impressed, strawberry picking
Is tough. We went to a cherry orchard not
too far from here and picked 25 lbs of
cherries. It was the opening day of cherry
season so the trees were laden with fruit
even at the lower branches so my 21/2
year old granddaughter had a blast picking

Irrelevant to most of us, I suspect. We'll be dead before any of this

Another one of your great guesses? Don't bet on it happening any time
soon. They have been doing research on electric cars for a long time and
battery life and range have been a major problem. Don't forget that the
bigger the battery the heavier it will be, and the heavier it is, the
more energy it will take to move it.

Think about the fuel logistics for airplanes and space craft. My friend
is a retired airline pilot. He has told be about situations where he was
flying into an area with weather problems. He was concerned about being
stuck in a holding pattern and being low on fuel. One one flight He had
to insist on carrying extra fuel. They had to do a number of
calculations to consider how much extra fuel would be consumed and the
extra cost just to transport that fuel. He stuck to his guns and got
the extra fuel. As it turned out, they did get stuck in a holding
pattern. When things opened up he had to get prioritized due to low
fuel, landed and taxied to the gate and arrived with little more than
fumes in the tanks.

Funny you should mention bees ... I just posted this to another group :

Some here may recall me lamenting (I think I whined here too) about
losing 4 of our 6 beehives over the winter . Well , they're doing their
level best to recoup their losses . A few weeks ago I split one hive ,
giving me 3 . Well yesterday one of them swarmed . Right into equipment
I had on standby for my next split , which makes 4 . Saved me the work
... so today I feel the need to inspect the hives . The split from weeks
back is good , both boxes queen-right . The swarm doesn't need
inspection yet , let 'em settle in . All that's left is The Tall Stack .
Lot of boxes and a lot of bees . Mad , pissed off bees . I was looking
for queen cells since I'm pretty sure it mothered the swarm . Too mean
for me to really look , so I stole a full medium box of brood to start
another hive . Pulled a frame with a nice patch of eggs from another
hive to be sure the new split had some to make queen dells . If all goes
well and the new split takes I'll be back up to 5 , right about where I
want to be . It IS a hobby after all ...

   -----------------

Needless to say my bees are doing just fine . I should never have let
that colony get so big , meanness is related to colony size . The plan
is to split off another colony as soon as I can determine the status of
the "tall stack" hive .
