anyone who says "BLT sandwich" obviously can't appreciate this, but
come on, it's a BLT - the perfect sandwich! "just as good" makes no
sense here

Sure it does. Lettuce really adds no flavor; it just makes it 'prettier'
and people think because it's got a hunk green vegetable on it, that adds
no nutritional value, that's really healthy now! Not that bacon is a super
food by any means. Probably the only thing that could be considered healthy
is the tomato.

They had been well marinated in olive oil, lemon and garlic, worked
well.

A restaurant near Colchester used to serve "Bacon Doorsteps." Two very
thick slices of heavily buttered *white* bread sandwiching slices of
lightly cooked back bacon.
Not exactly healthy but BLOODY GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a tall glass of celery juice, another of water and lime juice, cottage
cheese, a small piece of bread and butter.

Interesting to me is how, in a food group, so many here are so
picky about food and set in their ways. Never willing to
experiment.

"I can't imagine that" etc etc

As his stupid tax cut ramps up the debt!
jmcquown <j_mcquown@comcast.net>: May 30 08:35PM -0400

I'm torn. I have some cubed round steak in the freezer which needs to
be used. I'm thinking country/chicken fried steak with cream gravy.
Simple country fare served with butter beans.

But, something else has been tugging at me which is much more
interesting. Stuffed scallops.

I have some very large scallop shells which were gifted to me by a
neighbor. She bought them with the intention of making Coquilles St.
Jacques but never got around to it.

I have made crab and shrimp "stuffing" using canned lump crab and thawed
from frozen diced shrimp for stuffed flounder. No big deal to
substitute small thawed Patagonian (bay, petite) scallops in the
breadcrumb and sauteed vegetable mixture. Spoon onto the scallop shells
and bake. I think I'll tackle that this weekend. :)

This is a weekly pointer to the rec.food.cooking FAQ and conversion
file. If you do not want to see it every week, you should put the
title, which will not change, into your killfile.

The rec.food.cooking FAQ and conversion file is posted monthly to
rec.food.cooking, rec.food.recipes, rec.answers and news.answers. It is
also available as an easy-to-navigate frames version at

There is both a link to a no-frames version and a built-in no-frames
content for older or text-only browsers.

The rec.food.cooking FAQ and conversion file has two parts. The first
part covers conversion and equivalence. Tables are given for conversion
of oven temperatures, food names, weights and measures. Some useful
substitutions for unavailable ingredients are suggested.

The second part is more descriptive. It outlines some of the commonly
discussed topics of rec.food.cooking and explains a number of food
terms. It also lists other food-related newsgroups and mailing lists,
as well as food-related FAQs, recipe archives and other food/cooking
sites.

You see how bad it's gotten ?  Can't even nuke an egg without an app
! I forgot when I said in another thread that I was going to make bread
yesterday ... that the oven was out of service . The control board died
, new one arrived yesterday about noon . So this morning I made 3
batches of dough . 2 loaves , 15 hot dog buns , 12 burger buns . Then
discovered I still had a loaf out in the big freezer . And NOT ONCE did
I use a cell phone , a computer , or an app . The nearest I came was the
mechanical timers I use to time rise and bake cycles . Well , and the
electronic control on the oven . I'd have analog if it was still
available ...

LOL I have to say if you talk to yourself out loud and have all these
voice activated devices in your home, there's no telling what might happen.

Getting? About two minutes and forty six or so seconds into this video,
Jay Leno made fun of voice activated TV remotes. This was in 2006:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw4U54WNrs0

Sounded stupid then, still sounds stupid to me. How lazy are people
that they can't push a button?

A revolutionary reversal would be to make people get up off the couch
and walk across the room to change the channel on the TV. :)

No, I'm lazy that way. And I know from personal experience that
turmeric helps against infection, a bit like ibuprofen does.

However, I do not think turmeric resurrects the dead or fixes a broken
leg.

I had to look them both up as I've watched those shows. But I agree especially
with 'Montgomery Burns.'
