You can't taste lettuce? I find it has a distinctive taste. Not strong,
but readily identifiable.

I agree. It does have a mild taste although bacon will overpower
it. For me, the lettuce adds the crunch factor that I love on the
sandwich. It does make it better, imo.

It does seem to be a texture thing. I like BLTs but, as I said before,
we don't always have lettuce on hand when I have a hankering for a BLT,
so it just have bacon and tomato. They are good, but definitely lacking
an essential ingredient. It is curious how some people think that some
things have no flavour, but you can definitely tell when there is too
much. Celery is good example. Another is bay leaf. Soups and stews
without it tend to be missing something, even if you can't pinpoint the
missing taste. A couple years ago I had a dish in a Mexican restaurant
that had way too much bay leaf.

My grandmother used to give us Dripping Doorstops - thick cut bread
smeared with a heavy dose of dripping which had lots of rough salt on
top. I don't think I could handle one now but it sure quieted kids on
limited war time diets :) Have to say, we were very active kids all
day so maybe the body actually needed it, we are all still very
healthy save one who was killed in a motor bike accident at age 20.

Nothing else with the cottage cheese? Isn't that kind of blah by
itself?

I meant to do that for the 2nd helping last night but forgot.
Last week I did do a microwaved potato then turned into lumpy
mashed potato. I did top that with a juicy over-easy egg. Broke
the yolk over it and it was very delicious. :)

Sounds good. I'm overdue for shrimp. I'm waiting for a good sale
again. They come often enough.

Oh so funny. He does resemble Mr.Burns. John K is a cartoon
character here anyway so it all fits.

You see how bad it's gotten ? Can't even nuke an egg without an app
! I forgot when I said in another thread that I was going to make bread
yesterday ... that the oven was out of service . The control board died
, new one arrived yesterday about noon . So this morning I made 3
batches of dough . 2 loaves , 15 hot dog buns , 12 burger buns . Then
discovered I still had a loaf out in the big freezer . And NOT ONCE did
I use a cell phone , a computer , or an app . The nearest I came was the
mechanical timers I use to time rise and bake cycles . Well , and the
electronic control on the oven . I'd have analog if it was still
available ...

*Applause* :)) Bummer about the oven but ... You sure make a lot all
at once:))

I'm afraid I have to rely on my bread maker (unless I make a no-knead
bread) The old 'arfur' took over my hands ages ago.

LOL. That's a funny thought. Also just talking to a pet. No
telling how the electronics listening might interpret it.

"Hey Mia, are you hungry? Need some warm gravy meal?"

Two days later you get an Amazon delivery of case of ferret food
and a case of gravy mix packets for humans.

Are you talking about that chili-garlic sauce with the pic of the
rooster on the label? That's good stuff and I need to buy more
myself.

If meat loaf is your favorite, why no pictures ever that I can
remember?

I just made and finished 2 in a row, back to back. That should
last me a year or two. :)
Next on the list maybe is lasagna.

I don't think he'll win again. Just not "presidential" and spends
too much time on the internet. I also hope most of his democrat
enemies don't re-elected either. This term has been such a joke
and an embarrassment to the USA.

Everyone has measuring cups, fellow. Bringing one measly cup of
water to a boil is much faster on my gas stove than in my
microwave. You're nit-picking about seconds too. Go mow your
lawn.

According to a very good (American) doctor I once had, 80% of people
aren't able to change their lifestyle. So, without proof of the
contrary, it's better to medicate the patient than to expect them to
change their habits.

Pravastatin is the only statin that makes A1c and blood sugar go down but it can still cause myopathy.

True enough that most people don't or won't change their habits.
Most ppl do resist change in any form. The saying, "Hard to teach
old dogs new tricks," does have some validity in real life.

I do know of one woman's doctor that tricked her into quitting
smoking. After a check-up including chest x-ray, he mentioned
seeing a spot on her lung. Scared the heck out of her and she
quit smoking.

Next year another annual checkup and she asked about that spot on
her lung. He told her something like, "All is ok, funny how some
dust can get on an x-ray sometimes..."

Something like that. She told me about it. He scared her into
quitting but it worked. Doctors won't do that now as all have to
beware of lawsuits. These days, they will run so many extra tests
for any little thing just to have their back covered and not be
sued for something they might of missed.

Wise choice. Those scallops sound really good. Yum.

You can do it either way. I'm partial to adding teriyaki sauce to cooked
meat but traditionally, in Hawaii, teri-beef has been made by marinading in
thin teriyaki sauce. If you add the sauce to cooked meat, you should use
thick sauce.

Thick teriyaki sauce is easy to make. Add some soy sauce to a pan and add
enough sugar to balance out the saltiness. Add almost an equal amount of
water and some ginger and a little garlic to taste. I don't usually add
garlic but some people do. Thicken with some corn starch/flour slurry.

Thanks very much!

There's a lot of stuff happening on this rock, food-wise. The other day, a
woman proudly showed me her pasta machine that she got from Japan. I wanted
to take her picture with it but she was too shy. :)

Do you mean the pasta cutter? I have one of those:))

Here's what I had yesterday. It's mochi rice cooked in coconut milk, mango,
and haupia (coconut) sauce. It's pretty good if you like that kind of stuff.

I have never eaten anything like that so I can't comment except to
say, I am glad you enjoyed it:))
