My husband has a family tradition of a special meal that day but he said it's not any one special dish (like Thanksgiving etc.). He did recall well though that it was a family affair and everyone had a small job or (once older) dish to make. He said they also added a small yard project but always something to 'improve the house or yard a little'. We've picked a simple project here. I have a little plot of dirt bordered by sidewalk and driveway. It's about 8 inches front to back and 2.5ft long. We are going to weed it then fill with more gardening dirt and put in some flower seeds. Shopping tomorrow as we are out of fresh fruit. Don wants to make his green bean dish which means I make a white sauce with lots of white melty cheeses (guryere sp? and havarti appeal). Acorn squash with brown sugar. He wants me to make baguette-type bread and prepare some garlic butter. I'm thinking a whole cleaned trout would be good but shall see what wonders the store has! Rest of you? Any traditions? |
