The drive down was lovely, though Key West was a tad too cruise ship traveler for me. The gay stuff I loved and the quaintness, but all those thousands on shore excursions were nutso. >each and back through Virginia and the Back of the Dragon >https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/virginia/windiest-road-in-va/ >I've driven some nifty roads along mountains and seas. I love them. I had a trip to Yellowstone planned a few years ago, some reservations made, but had to cancel. Would not be as much fun without my co-pilot so doubt I'll ever do it. Can't complain, been to about 30 states and 7 countries. |

Bush blew it with Saddam, and Obama blew it with Gaddafi and Mubarak. My pure speculation is that Saddam's chemical weapons went early during the war to Syria and are being used during insurrections by Assad. He's certainly using chemical weapons. Early on, the Iran-Iraq War should have been allowed to play out without Soviet and Western intervention, but that wasn't going to happen. Ain't hindsight grand? leo |

Use equal parts polenta and ordinary wheat flour for your cornbread. Vegetable oil works well as a substitute for butter. Don't forget the baking powder, salt, milk and an egg. Well...you might have to find substitutes for the milk and egg, but I'm not up on Millennial Chow. Maybe, Purina is. Otherwise, you're welcome. leo |

You're a little hard to pin down. I just looked it up. You're a lacto-ovo-pescatarian. That's a mouthful. The good news is that you can make real cornbread any way you want minus lard, and vegetable shortening substitutes for that. leo |

I still have a Magnavox shortwave/AM radio with 33 1/3, 78 rpm turntable in a nice console. No TV though. It's worth less than a hundred bucks today (I checked online), its tubes are dead and the wiring is atrocious by today's standards. Still, I can't remember my life without it, and it makes a nice looking clock and picture stand. It's a worthless family heirloom that I won't throw away. leo |

"Your Show of Shows", "The Adventures of Hiram Holliday" and "Captain Midnight" are what I remember from when TV came to my town. We had one station, KRON from San Francisco. "Captain Midnight" was sponsored by Ovaltine. You got a Captain Midnight patch with every bottle of Ovaltine. The Captain Midnight patch sort of looked like the peace symbol did in the future. leo |

However, when I was a child we drank Ovaltine quite a bit. Several years ago I got hankering for it and remember how much I liked it. I bought a jar and that stuff is disgusting. Hahahahaaaaa |

If you can get hold of the European version, it's much more like the one you remember from your childhood. I did a side-by-side taste test of them, then tossed the super-sweet one. |

My surgery was so cheapo that I just had instructions to "Don't Rub Your Eye" with no covering provided. You should see a significant difference when the cover is removed. Before the next surgery is performed, look at a white surface with your good eye first and then your bad eye. I noticed that what I thought was white before, is a lot whiter with your "good" eye. That difference goes away when the second eye is done and white balances for both eyes. Use the drops religiously until done or told not to do so. There's a lot to lose. leo |

| azazello@koroviev.de (Victor Sack): Jun 04 10:04PM +0200 This is a weekly pointer to the rec.food.cooking FAQ and conversion file. If you do not want to see it every week, you should put the title, which will not change, into your killfile. The rec.food.cooking FAQ and conversion file is posted monthly to rec.food.cooking, rec.food.recipes, rec.answers and news.answers. It is also available as an easy-to-navigate frames version at <http://vsack.homepage.t-online.de/rfc_faq.html>. There is both a link to a no-frames version and a built-in no-frames content for older or text-only browsers. The rec.food.cooking FAQ and conversion file has two parts. The first part covers conversion and equivalence. Tables are given for conversion of oven temperatures, food names, weights and measures. Some useful substitutions for unavailable ingredients are suggested. The second part is more descriptive. It outlines some of the commonly discussed topics of rec.food.cooking and explains a number of food terms. It also lists other food-related newsgroups and mailing lists, as well as food-related FAQs, recipe archives and other food/cooking sites. |
