During the day it was difficult to get enough volunteers during the day when people worked so they had a paid crew. Other times it was volunteer staffed. They would bill for ambulance if you had insurance as it helped with the funding. Fire department is 100% volunteer. In most towns today, the volunteers are as well trained, professional, and competent as the paid crews. |

Our town has a mix of professional and volunteer fire departments. The small city to the east of us has the same. There is a highway intersection on their side of the boundary that has a number of businesses. About 20 years ago that city built a new volunteer fire department about a half mile east of the intersection. In the time that fire hall opened there have been 4 businesses and a house that have burned to the ground, all within a half mile of the fire hall. |

Air circulation was the only reason we had to burn oil at times as it was not easy to move the warm air to the opposite corner on the upper level. Older model of this one. https://www.vermontcastings.com/products/encore-flexburn-wood-burning-stove It had a griddle on the top and pot roast or stew was made there in winter too. I made a grate to go over the wood directly for grilling a steak. Bringing in wood every couple of days and feeding the stove twice a day kept you a little active, as did splitting and stacking the 4 or 5 cords every year. No gym membership needed. |

Hawaiian culture is mostly a mix of Japanese, Chinese, and Hawaiian, cultures. Not that it matters much these days. The younger generation will determine what Hawaiian culture will be in the future. It's going to be different than it is now. Yes, it is true of most things now:) We ate at my step-mom's house today. It was not bad. From the spread, we can see that the Swedes are into gravy. She had white, tan, and brown, gravy. She cooked the beef Euro style i.e., well done. My favorite dishes were the bacon wrapped asparagus and the mashed potatoes. https://www.amazon.com/photos/shared/y9UJh1PEQyOrXWNwZSs4Uw.Zerd773lTMwMkcwWbUQ_oS Awww it wouldn't come up:(( It sounds lovely though:)) |
