Digest for rec.food.cooking@googlegroups.com - 25 updates in 10 topics

It was a busy work day with lots of briefs but I pulled the frozen pork
butt portion out late Sunday to the fridge to defrost, took 5 minutes
for the marinade on Tuesday then popped it in the oven with a timer at
4pm just after wrapping work.

Local cost per serving if curious is 49cents each. Based on sales and
knowing where to get stuff here.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

Title: Xxcarol's char-siu pork butt
Categories: Xxcarol, Pork, Asian
Yield: 8 Servings

1 ea Char-siu sauce packet
1/4 c Soy sauce datu puti brand
2 lb Pork butt
1/2 ts Anise seed

This one is super simple but very good. I've made the sauce from
scratch but this is less complex for a busy cook.

Defrost the roast if frozen. This one was a part of a pork butt
vacuumn sealed after splitting a larger roast down.

Mix the packet per directions but use the soy sauce as part of the
water and vinegar it may call for (some don't add vinegar). In a
sealed container, add your pork to the marinade and let rest in the
fridge (turning occasionally) for at least 6 hours but 2 days is
better.

Pre-heat oven to 450 and bake uncovered for 10 minutes on a raised
pan then cover and reduce temp to 250. Bake 30 minutes then flip it
over and bake another 30 minutes.

The anise seed is optional but a nice touch and more authentic. Also
yo speed time, you can preslice the pork butt to 1-1.5 inch thick
portions then marinade but we like the lovely pristine pork roast
with the lovely red exerior.

This recipe is Cantonese but we learned it in Hawaii. If you are
tired of making the same thing all the time and yet don't want to
spend all day in the kitchen, this one is a winner and I've used it
with guests which looks very pretty and slices easily in front of
them on a carving board.

This is due to two things. Lack of available meat. I don't want pork or fake
meats. I do have a pound of ground beef to use up and a raw beef roast in
the freezer.

I do have some frozen and refrigerated prepared foods. I have frozen and
canned vegetables. Some other canned food. Plenty of pasta, rice and dried
beans. So... I shall be living off of those things for the time being.
Might make a tuna or chicken casserole or a grilled cheese. That will be
pretty much the extent of my cooking.

I have had a hankering for a coconut cream pie. I really only want a
slice or two, so I am not going to make or buy a whole pie. You can add
banana cream pie to that list too. It would be nice to have, but not to
be stuck with a lot of it.

Coconut water is a different matter. I have been hearing about how good
it is, how good it is for you and how it is supposed to be so good to
rehydrate you. It ain't cheap but I finally bought some a couple weeks
ago. It was gross. Walked past the stuff in the grocery store the other
day and sort of cringed.

Interesting, Dave.

You'd probably like this cake. It's a frozen cake. It comes in a big round cake size and a smaller bar type size. The small size one would be around 3 bucks. As an extra bonus, it has three layers. Freezing a cake is a nutty idea but I like these better than a homemade, store, or bakery cake.

Yes, but can it peel 1,000,000 apples for all the sailors in the
fleet? I think not. Only Popeye, fired up on spinach, with a paring
knife can do that.

Why? do the gooks use colored marshmallow?

Yoose weird! Most women buy stuff that smells like food ... powders
and greases to rub on their body ... almost all are heavily scented
with some food odor. And food scents are sold as magic cures too.

Yes, I do! I bought one a few months and sure enjoyed it. The ones in the
stores here come in a square box as it the cake. Yummmmm.

It actually does!  I mowed my lawn one time and one wheel had dropped
into a lower cutting position.  I noticed it right away but it had a
similar effect.

HOA in his case is a simile. He probably doesn't have an HOA, per se,
but there are *ordinances* to comply with in his neighborhood. He said
so himself, he couldn't get an "Occupancy Permit" until he changed the
paint. Obviously there are rules he wasn't aware of. Call it what you
want (HOA or not), now he has to repaint.

Guessing those are just reserved by the entry door. Looks to have a
charger box visible for those spaces. Wouldn't doubt that wireless pads
are coming.

I laughed when it said starting positions were 35K. After taxes and
medical insurance those folks can still get a hotdog. Cheapo bastards
just like Bezos.

All you can do is wait for the old cocksucker to die, then go to
the funeral. You'll have to stand in line to piss on his grave. It
will be a very long line.

Popeye is a liar, and a faggot. You'll have to get used to that.

Gay people are ok. but Popeye makes it an issue. He's gay himself,
but closeted. Even his brother is queer.

Yep, dutch oven is a pot with a lid, capable of withstanding hot
coals to slow bake grub. Usually cast iron.
