| tert in seattle <tert@ftupet.com>: Jan 14 08:14PM I'm sure you're all concerned that I might have been hit by a tree in the big wind storm here in Seattle Tuesday night. That did not happen but I did wake up to the sound of a transformer exploding at 1:30 a.m. It was pretty weird, the utility pole across the street snapped but the wires were still connected. I had some power but not enough for my electric range or wall heaters. And some rooms in the house had no power. It seems like I was not getting a full supply of electrons. That was all fixed this morning but my internet is down. My neighbor wasn't so lucky - a chunk from another utility pole smashed his pickup truck. |

I saw on the Weather Channel this morning where y'all had tremendous winds and LOTS of b.i.g. trees were down. Glad you are ok, but sorry to hear of your neighbor's truck. But I hope he realizes that chunk of a utility pole could have crashed through his house, perhaps, and killed him. Stay safe! |

Sounds like God's Own Arc Welder. > pretty weird, the utility pole across the street snapped but the wires > were still connected. Good old stackexchange: <https://diy.stackexchange.com/questions/178240/weird-power-outage-in-certain-rooms-condominium> "You have lost one phase or leg (terms vary) of your power. 120/240 power comes in on 3 wires - two hots each 120V from the neutral and 240V from each other. Most breaker panels are designed with alternating legs. Left & right in each row are on the same leg. 240V (dryer, oven, A/C, etc.) use a pair of breakers, one on each leg. "Your electrician should have been able to figure this out. In any case, CALL YOUR ELECTRIC UTILITY and tell them you have an intermittent phase/leg out. They'll check it out for free and fix it if it is on their side, which is very often the case." This happened at our office last summer. The worst thing was that the air-conditioners were getting only half the power they needed. I hollered at the building manager to shut them down PDQ. Cindy Hamilton |

We also had high winds and in southern Alberta, they get funnelled through the Crowsnest Pass and become hazardous, like this (scroll down to the Truck movie clip): https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/wind-warning-calgary-environment-canada-1.5871628 |

Good heavens. You must be a royal adventurer hero type to stay and brave such adversity. Is there no way you can relocate to a safer place without loosing your dignity? Detroit is nice this time of year. |
| tert in seattle <tert@ftupet.com>: Jan 14 11:04PM >building manager to shut >them down PDQ. >Cindy Hamilton Well, there ya go! Same with the electric heaters - I made sure to keep them turned off so the elements didn't burn out which seems like a possibility with the fans not running. And I have learned once again that using my phone as a hotspot is almost as bad as not having internet at all. |

You can do a Zoom meeting without a camera. The other members of the meeting won't be seeing you. This is important if you like to walk around in your underwear at home. |

| Lenona <lenona321@yahoo.com>: Jan 14 02:37PM -0800 It was uploaded on Jan. 8th. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wT5kafhG3Qw Whether you like the man's politics or not, he is drop-dead talented - and funny. (I've seen some of his other political parodies of show tunes - he's all over YouTube.) And, while it's not clear yet to me just when he started putting the video together (it may have been on Jan. 3, after the "phone call," as one person pointed out) he still works amazingly fast!
