By refusing to serve Joe Biden has never become Americanized.

Republican groups dumped on John Kerry's war record. The guy had
volunteered for service. Then he volunteered for Swift Boat service,
which was more hazardous. He was cited for bravery, but humbly admitted
that it was no big deal. He was wounded three times, and admitted that
they were minor but that he opted to use the three wounds and out option
because he did not like the way the war was being fought.

Meanwhile, his Republican opponent managed to get into a National Guard
program that ensured he would never be sent overseas. Trump not only
managed to avoid any type of military system, he has dumped on the
members of the armed forces.

I never served. Did I therefore never become Americanized?

In your case it matters not, you're not running for public office...
no one cares about your beliefs and behavioural patterns.
You are certainly a strange one, always believing everything is about
you... you're not a little paranoid...

With a bow drill? I've managed to get a bit of a glow, but got tired, so
didn't continue to flames.

At least it's warm there. I have wondered how the Eskimos managed in the
good old days when they lived in igloos during the winter. Those little
snow houses were pretty cramped. I can't imagine exposing sensitive body
parts in that extreme cold. The coldest temperature I have ever
experienced was -40 and that is was ungodly cold.

I've done the flint and steel and also used a magnifying glass.

And actually, even knife and wood might be copping out.
For all natural, find or make a sharp rock to substitute for the knife.

The bow drill thing seems to be the easiest.
For the string part, use a shoelace but to go all natural, I've seen
very strong and thin vines growing here. I'd try those first. Just cut
off a good length then spend a little time removing their thorns.

Anyway...just a fun challenge for someday. On my camping trips, I just
used 2 Bic lighters. One in my pocket and a backup one in my backpack.
Even if they get wet, just dry them out and they work again.

That's what I was talking about, Dave. Knife (or sharp rock) just to cut
the wood, then friction to start a fire.

I didn't ask him but I suspected he was a former special forces guy.
He knew Bear Grylls from tv fame.

I still have his email address.

I saw a list of his books and one seemed to concentrate on that subject.
Still haven't looked for it but sounds like "right up my alley."

Minus 40F is almost as serious as it can be. Move south.

The grill is outdoors, not used in inclement weather. Actually the
nuker does a better job... and I'm not going to light the grill for a
couple ears.

Our grill is outdoors, too. We use it year-round except in the most
severe weather.

It's moot, anyhow, since good corn on the cob is available only in
the summer.

I'll light the grill for a single hotdog. Although for a single hotdog I'd
probably light only one burner. If I want one hotdog, I cook one hotdog.

I use a small microwave. Sunbeam, 700 watts with a turntable.
It's my most used appliance.

I don't "cook" too many things with it. Potatoes mostly, but I use it
daily to reheat food. Several times daily.

I want my...I want my... I want my microwave! (or MTV)
Followed by a killer electric guitar solo.
(It's a Dire Straights thing) Excellent song, "Money for Nothing."

When my daughter was young, we always ate in the living room too. Dining
room table only for special meals like Thanksgiving or Christmas and
classical music playing on the stereo.

Since she's been gone and it's only me, I'm a slob and eat in bed right
next to my tv. lol (No wife to yell at me for that)

I can setup any Chromebook, or Windows computer, or Android phone, in a few minutes or so. That includes all bookmarks, documents, photos, addresses, and telephone numbers. My entire computer system is easily transportable. I haven't had to mess with that nasty computer setup in years. It's what computing should have always been.

My buddy took me down to a local Italian deli. They also had smoked Hungarian sausage. I was advised to take something called Csabai. So I took one sausage. When I got home, I was disappointed that it was so dry and hard. I fired it up and it was fantastic. My version had a good amount of heat, it was very dense. This sausage needed very little bread alongside. I could eat it without bread. The less bread that is used the better. A small amount of bread is good though. A very small amount.
