And here they are. The crust looks rougher than yours and I´m sure sharp
cheddar was used.I was asleep when they were made for breakfast and haven´t
tasted any. I still have half a bunch of baby spinach left to rot.

No, he would have had MORE help 60 years ago, not less.

A ship of 300 has a cook complement of about 20. His ship was
backtracked by another to have a crew of 150-200. He probably had 15
or more 'cooks' then. Modern ships have more freezer/refridgeration
space hence more prepared foods with less effort hence less cooks.

So . . . what were the ingredients?

I found these on the 'net,
1 can (15.25 oz) Hunts family favorites seasoned tomato sauce for
meatloaf (note: 1/2 can for the meat mixture - 1/2 for topping)
2 lbs 93% lean ground beef
2 large eggs, beaten
1 c. quick cooking oats, dry bread crumbs or crushed crackers

BUT what does the "can" say?

and whiskey to accept the things I cannot.

People often worry about what others do on the job. What counts is
getting the job done properly, on time.

That is always a possibility. It may or may not have been a factor with
my recent weight loss. I started following the Heart and Stroke diet
plan which had one beef dish every three weeks, chicken about once a
week, a couple fish dishes per week and the rest are vegetarian... also
very low salt and low fat. The meat and dish portions were all very
small. I was losing 1-1/2 lb. per day. I eventually plateaued. I gained
a couple pounds back after Christmas because I was eating desserts and
more meat. We did vegetarian last night and the night before and I
dropped two pounds.

Personally, I have found a semi vegetarian diet to be a good way to lose
weight, though I cut out good desserts and pastry treats. I know a fww
vegetarians who don't seem to enjoy that benefit.

She put in white meat chicken, potatoes, peas and carrots and a buttery,
creamy roux plus salt and pepper, best she can remember ;) She cooks by
recipes she finds on the Net. The piecrust was called a "homemade buttery
flaky piecrust" from sallysbakingaddiction.com.
I use store-bought Pillsbury crusts for my famous
recipe-off-the-bottle-of-Karo pecan pie. Next time, I´ll request that she
make a homemade crust.
