I can't say that I've ever had a turnip or parsnip.

I can't remember ever having parsnips. Also, they're very expensive
here.

A friend often made turnips and I'd have some but nothing I'd make on my
own.

I had parsnips in with some other root veggies. Not very exciting as I
recall. Seldom see them in the store.

I don't know... my daughter liked this video, I thought it was really
creepy and sadistic (it took a long time to find it again).

There's no doubt whatsoever a thermometer is more accurate but it makes
the process of cooking too clinical. I don't want to feel like I'm running
a food processing factory in my kitchen, so I try to minimise the use of
whizzy hi-tech gizmos. I feel there is sometimes too much needless
technology in the kitchen.

I guess tech nerds would probably go the other way and maximise the number
of digital tools in their kitchen. They're not wrong -- just different to
me.

It's a difference between emphasis on the left side of the brain
(science) or the right side (art, intuition).

Mine come out kind of like a pancake. They don't have nearly the rise
that Jill's do. Taste fine though.
