Digest for rec.food.cooking@googlegroups.com - 25 updates in 4 topics

One night last week I watched as my wife pulled in at night and noticed
that one headlight was very bright and one was dull and had a yellow hue
to it. I went out in the morning and checked it out and saw that the
plastic cover was discoloured. The other one had been replaced about
two years ago after I hit a dear. Last night I decided to deal with it
and went online to see how to clean it up.

There were lots of methods and products mentioned but one of the videos
used the Turtle Wax Headlight Restoration Kit. It looked easy enough. So
this morning I went over to Canadian Tire and picked one up.

It was easy enough to use. I cleaned and tried the exterior and laid
masking tape around the outside of it. The first step was to apply the
lens clarifying compound with a cotton cloth, let it dry and then wipe
it down with a terry towel. That alone made a huge difference. The
next step was to apply the lubricating spray to the coarsest scrubbing
pad and wipe back and forth with slight pressure for about a minute.
Then turn the pad over to the next finer grit and repeat. Then repeat
with the next two grades of grit. Wipe off the lubricant and then apply
more of the restoration compound, let it dry to a haze and wipe it off
with the terry cloth. Then there was a pad with base coat to wipe on
followed by a pad with sealer.

It was less than $20 for the kit and about 10-15 minutes work. The
headlight looks like new. Money and effort well spent.

I have used toothpaste with good results. 3 cars. They need a refresher after 2 years so I will do it again when I think about it. The newest car is 2012.

Sounds like a lot of effort. Would be easier to just buy a new car.

I just bought new headlights on eBay. They were pretty cheap and women go crazy for sharped-dressed car.

Demand for vegan/vegetarian offerings in your area is low. Here in
the People's Republic of Ann Arbor, it's difficult to stay in business
if you don't cater to that demographic.

Officer Dave, that is grounds for an extended investigation,
with possible arrests and crown court trials.

You fucked up. Turn in your badge and water pistol.

Cindy, you could always move to Detroit.

I lived there long ago, near Gratiot avenue ... but it was back
in the 1950's. I'm sure it has advanced since then. It should
be much more to your liking than communist ann arbor.

Younger, more educated people are more often vegetarian or vegan.
Eating meat is slowly becoming a lower socio-economic thing, like
smoking. It's for the great unwashed.

I like Ann Arbor. But I have no illusions about the effect of
the university on the town's culture.

I also like to eat vegetarian food in restaurants. Vegan--not so much.
There's a new-ish Indian restaurant; I'm working my way through the
vegetarian section of the menu.

Dave, face it. Your family is either renouned for being dysfuntional
or you are hypercritical.

Dave's very egocentric, narrow-minded and judgmental. He's all about
ME, ME and ME.

I won't argue that branch of the family is not dysfunctional. I only
told you what happened. I have been estranged from most of that bunch
for well over a decade but remain close to one of them who is also
estranged from them and had adopted us as his family.

Are you saying officer dave just makes this crazy shit up?

So, Maybe he is just a storyteller, and draws upon his family
for material.

I get it. I remember Popeye's crazy stories.

Dave, I enjoy your stories of all the fucked up people in your
family.

Now that I understand better, I believe you are a literary
genius. You should write a fictional book about all your nutty
fucked up relatives.

Hell, just use a pen name Like Davey Doo-right.

I had a vegan lunch today.

If you won't argue that they are not dysfunctional, you agree that
they are functional. That's the first time you've said something
positive about your family, which is heartwarming to witness, Dave.

Instead of mignon it was half a ribeye in the bottom broiler with fries baking at 425f in the oven. The steak curled up while cooking and hit the drawer frame.
Poor me. Next week back to fillet m.

I love filets but I will gladly take a rib eye.

You are missing it on several points.

1) I already park as close as possible (handicap plates)
2) I have to get the keys out to unlock the car

It's simply nice to not have to worry sometimes on life's impediments.

Common actually. The drug store where I pickup precriptions has the
disability parking at the farthest corner from the cart return which
also has the only ramp.

Well, by God, that does it! Fuck Aldi!

I wouldn't go back either, after being shit on, like they did
to you.

Then they're asking for people not returning their cart.
