For the last few weeks, I've been shopping at 7 am, during the time
reserved for senior citizens, anybody else at extreme risk from

and first responders. It has been nice, although I wouldn't say it's
much better than 5 pm. The old people are slow and disorganized and this
particular store has fewer checkstands open at that time so the lines
are actually longer.

What are checkstands?
 
 
Those of us who work full time generally don't have the luxury of shopping
early. When things get back to normal (whatever that ends up being) I'll
go back to shopping at 5 pm.

your food and bag it, then you pay for it.

It is the location in the store where your purchases are run up and
you pay for your stuff. A big grocery store might have 20 of
them. A checkstand comprises the cash register and any infrastructure
provided to move your groceries from your cart into bags.
 
We usually call the operator of the cash register the cashier.

10 years, but I'm not optimistic, at least in these United States. Other nations are eschewing Fossil Fuels but the U.S. is very behind many other more progressive nations. The U.S is no longer the leader of the "free world" as we remember it.

The rumor is that Mr. Obama is building a humble home in Hawaii. Somebody bought the property made famous in the TV series "Magnum P.I." The place was demolished and a new estate is being built. My guess is that, if true, the place will be called "Obama's Nest."

My mother used to tell me I didn't need to wear makeup. Then one day
when I was in my 20's we were going somewhere together and I wasn't
wearing any. Completely bare face. She looked at me and said, "You
know, really DO look better with makeup!" I busted out laughing. I'd
been trying to tell her that for years. :)

No, that would look totally unnatural on me. I have a very fair
complexion. The shade I buy is called "natural blonde" but my hair
comes out looking light red. I went to the hospital a few years back
for a colonoscopy. I was amazed at how many of the staff asked me if
I'm a natural redhead. I mentioned it to the neighbor who drove me
there. She said, "Your hair *is* red!" Could have knocked me over with
a feather. :)

read everything several times if only to see if there's anything new
and to refresh my memory of those who no longer post.
RFC had much better posters years ago, none of the OT imbeciles like
of late... RFC originally had posters who could actually cook. These
days maybe 50% can cook... the other 50% are Unionized dues paying ass
sniffers.
