My smart tv has apps that don't require you to type web addresses. There's
a whole dashboard where I can configure my favorites: Netflix, Amazon Prime,
Youtube, Apple+, etc. When I click on one of those, I get a specific dashboard
where I can choose what's displayed or search for additional content.

He's saying that most of the wall space is covered, and the only clear
space is windows or doors.

Who wants a TV on a wall with a nearby window. The TV in out family
room sits below a good sized window and it is quite close to the corner
of the room with equal sized window. It is hard to watch it during the
day unless we close the blinds. There is too much glare from above to
the right and reflected light from the other window. Thank goodness we
rarely watch TV during the day.

Common sense would say "raise the rent". Operative words being "common
sense". I thought he was all geared up to become a non-profit
tax-exempt "church". I guess the law doesn't allow "churches" rent
bedrooms to strangers.

My guess is that you're not going to notice a thing. Most Americans are pretty much blind to the stuff that goes down with being Asian-American in the US. To Asian-Americans, it's obvious.

That is horrible:( I have never known anyone who treats anyone like
that so badly. Maybe I just don't see it but I would complain loudly if I
did!!

The only people I have anything against is those that are cruel and
hurtful and that would be anyone.

If you were here, you would be very welcome I can assure you! I
wouldn't say that about everyone here and they are NOT Asians!

When we were in the UK, I did notice a whole bunch of new people from the middle East and Africa in places in London. When we ventured out into the street in London the place was filled with Iranians - obviously they were rich Iranians. I was surprised that people in London just seemed to go with the flow. I understand that there's some tension with all the changes but I'm pretty sure Americas would just freak out if that ever happened to them. It opened my eyes to how racially uptight Americans are.

It probably depends on where you live, whether there's much anti-Asian
racism.

The population of Ann Arbor, MI is 68.6% White Alone, 15.9% Asian Alone, and 6.89% Black or African American Alone.

That's a huge (relatively speaking) Asian population.

You should see Southeast Michigan. Tons and tons of Middle Easterners.
The signage in the hospital my mother uses is in English and Arabic.

I read an interesting letter to the editors in the paper the other day
that had been written by a guy who identified himself as being
Chinese-Canadian and he rejected claims about wide spread anti Chinese
discrimination. He said that in all his years here he had only been
subjected to one racist remark, and he passed that off as the guy being
an idiot. He went on to say that any negativity towards Chinese was
nothing compared to the anti black racism in the Chinese community.

If I did come to your town, it would be perfectly normal to be called "sir" because it would be obvious that I was a visitor i.e., "tourist." If I was to strike up a conversation with another hotel guest, I'd make sure they called me by my name. If the hotel guest was a wee lad, "sir" would be fine and appropriate. OTOH, I wouldn't expect a hotel staff to call me by my name - that would be weird. If I was at a hotel in Hawaii, "uncle" would be fine but only after it was established that I was a local. The rules for what we call each other varies and are quite complicated.

Of course, it's not right that a neighbor should call another neighbor "sir." Well, unless they was a wee small lad - and a weird one at that.

They're called "Uncle, Auntie, tutu, Kapuna, Sensei, Kumu."

My husband calls men "sir" all the time. It's the way he was raised. He
also refers to women as "ladies": That lady in the red top.

Not necessarily smirky. A smile with a wink. Like, we're both in on the
joke.

Whenever I look up a recipe on the web, I will look at several
as all are different. Many times I'll pick and choose
ingredients from several.

When I say "smirky" I mean joking. Whenever I use that, it's
to let people know that what I said is not quite serious.

Ah. I think of the dictionary definition of "smirk":

smile in an irritatingly smug, conceited, or silly way.
"he smirked in triumph"

I suppose you fall under "silly", but that isn't my first association
to the work.

I've noticed that the longer that I live alone and only cook
just for me, I get lazier and lazier all the time. Too many
times, I plan something good then settle for less and easier.

Many things, a pain in the ass to prepare yet when you do
spend the time, it's so rewarding in the end.

For that reason, I still cook large for many leftovers and
the only time I'll do that is early morning when I have
the max energy for doing it. (and I'm not hungry yet)

I need to cook a pound of loose hot sausage today and I've
already waited too long but I'll make myself do it today. I've
already put it off since last week.

Many nights I would have loved to eat it but it still sits
raw in my fridge. Anyway...no lunch for me today until I cook
that first.
