They are cheap enough now. I don't think that you will regret it,
though you may need to get cable or satellite to get HD and really make
it worthwhile.

About 3-4 years ago I called my uncle down in Florida and heard all
about the big project he was working on. He was installing digital
converters on his three TVs. He was about 96 at the time and had been
working on it for a few days. Nice that a guy that old is up to tackling
the job, but it was kind of depressing for me to think that he was
having so much trouble considering that he had been an electrical
engineer and worked on aircraft missile systems.

I suggest that he time the old CRT TVs and get a flat screen. He
rejected that idea, saying that HD was a crock and only required
because the screens are so big now. He figured that the rooms in his
condo are small so they are never that far from the TV and that there
are ample pixels on a 24 inch screen for a clear picture.

In my city, it you call ahead to your trash collector, they will pick
up your TV and take it away. It does end up at the landfill area, but
there it is harvested of whatever they take from it and then it and
all the other TVs get hauled away . Check and see if that is available
to you.

It's certainly available but I hate the idea of just junking a TV in
perfect working order. And that harvesting usually takes place in 3rd
world countries where the workers have no protection against all the
heavy metals etc that they are retrieving.

I want to know why thinks he doesn't live in the United States. No, not
really.

I've known and worked with plenty of people from India. Computer
programmers, mostly, and tech support. They weren't all vegetarians. ;)
They didn't have to rent rooms in boarding houses. They were educated
and bought their own houses. Had families and children.

Does he really think everyone wants to live a poverty stricken life like
the one he espouses? Where everyone has to have roommates to pay their
bills? Sorry, most people would rather try to live better than that.

I don't like mangos. I do like pineapple. Must be chilled. Warm
tropical fruit sucks. Oh, about those mangos he's touting. They aren't
"fresh". There are no mango groves in St. Louis Missouri.

No doubt the mangos arrived there via refrigerated trucks, vehicles that
use gasoline. After being flown in or shipped in from... oh, his
favourite country. The National fruit of India. Well, that explains
everything except how they're "fresh". And why we should all eat them.
Warm. No thank you!

Actually I can lift them just fine and I do carrying them from my car
into the house using both hands, it's carrying them down the basement
stairs that's difficult because I need to carry each bag with one hand
and use the other hand on the railing. It's not easy carrying forty
pounds with one hand, plus that plastic hand grip is very narrow so it
digs into my hand, so I wear a heavy leather insulated work glove on
that hand. Not too many years ago the job was a lot more difficult,
the bags weighed fifty pounds and there was no molded hand grip...
that's why the last people used a 2" X 10" wooden plank as a ramp and
slid the salt bags down. I'll bet that Kootchie couldn't carry those
bags of salt down 16 steps using only one hand... Nordic Track does
nothing to strengthen ones hand grip.... the only hand grip
strengthening exercise Koothie does is pumping his two inch fuse once
a month. LOL-LOL

Yes, remember when he needed help lifting the speaker? For his "sound"
in the basement. As if anyone actually cared. He did say he couldn't
lift it. I think it was a ruse to get someone to come into his house.

Sheldon's doing pretty well for his age. And hey, he's man enough to
admit he might need some help now.

We're all getting older. Except for the great Kuthe who says he "rips
it" on a Nordic track and thinks any of us care. What does that have to
do with being able to lift 40# bags? I'd love to see him do that. He
gets tuckered mowing his tiny front yard with his electric lawn mower.

No need to defend yourself. Joan (and I) are on your side with this
one. Kuthe couldn't carry those 40# bags from the car and down the
stairs to the basement to save his life. He's calling you a weakling?
You plant and harvest a garden every year. He rents rooms to people who
have convinced him eating mangos makes him look cool. LOL

It's can be an eye opener to see how little effort some people put into
"ripping it". I ran into enough of them at gyms over the years. They
are the people who walk side by side on the walking track and are
constantly being lapped by the other people on the track, or they block
swimming lanes in the pool. They go on the weight machines and work out
on minimal amounts and then discretely change the weight setting when
they get off.

I once had a run in with a couple of old babes in the pool. I used to
swim 1000 meters almost every day and stuck to the medium lanes where I
could maintain a pace and get my laps in and leave the fast lanes for
the faster swimmers. There were two older women swimming side by side
very slowly and I had to pass them repeatedly. They complained that I
was splashing them. I suggested they should move over to the slow lane
but they said they were medium swimmers. I pointed out that the people
in the slow lane were swimming faster than they were. In their minds
they were ripping it.

I have to give Kuthe credit for staying an hour on a Nordic track. I
cannot put in much time on any type of stationary exercise machine.
They are just too boring. Five minutes seems to last an hour. It is a
real challenge to do 10.

Kootchie is an utter imbecile... the only chemical used in water
softeners is pure NACL, solar salt, it's the same salt one adds to
their food, only it's much larger crystals. The water softener
removes the minerals from our well water but adds nothing but pure
salt when the unit back washes out the other minerals, all ends up in
our creek, adds no salt to out domestic water. Any other impurites
are removed with our reverse osmosis filter.... even all germs
(bacteria/viruses) are negated with a UV light, why don't more people
add a UV light to their water treatment, probably because they are too
cheap. The devise costs little but the UV bulb needs to be replaced
once a year and costs about $125 plus a $10 disposal fee. Our A/C
system filter also contains two UV lamps, all the air in our house is
constantly treated with UV, two more bulbs to replace each year...
treated even in winter when we don't use A/C, then the blower motor
automatically switches to low. We are living here 16 years, neither
of us has had a cold in all those years. People don't realize all the
germs in their water and air. BTW, bottled water is not sterile nor
is it clean, it's labled with an expiration date (on the cap) as it's
not RO filtered nor is it treated with UV. People who gorge on
bottled water are only polluting the planet with all their plastic
waste, not to mention polluting their bodies by consuming all that
filthy germy bottled water. When we want bottled water we refill our
reusable Camelbak plastic bottles from our RO tap. I have one bottle
on my night stand and one on my PC desk. We sanitize our refillable
water bottles with Hydrogen Peroxide... add a half ounce, shake it,
and let it sit for ten minutes, then rinse... do the same with tooth
brushes. Do Not gargle with peroxide, it kills mouth cells... best
for sanitizing your mouth is salt water... commercial mouth washes
like Listerine are pure BS, those do nothing but empty your wallet. To
freshen breath chew on a mint leaf... I prefer Sen Sen, black
licorise, or fennel... I love munching on a crisp fennel bulb with
some kosher salt.

I'll be 77 in a few days, Kootchie could never out work me at any age.
Oh, first thing this morning I lugged the last four bags of salt to
the basement. One bag would put Kootchie in the hospital, he'd need
an RN, a REAL RN, not a fake stoned RN like himself who couldn't be
trusted with a rugrat.

When I have travelled in France I was able to deal with simple
conversations and had no trouble getting meals, hotels and travel
arrangements. It is a different matter in Quebec. The French is even
worse in Northern Ontario, but they readily switch to English..... just
like the do in France if they speak it, and most do. It is only in
Quebec where they insist on their shitty version of French.

We had always encouraged our son to learn French. We had arranged for a
tutor and he had gone on an exchange program for 6 weeks. When he moved
to Montreal I urged him to become fully bilingual. I pointed out that
large companies were always looking for bilingual staff and that there
are a lot of bilingual jobs in the government and explained that they
are for people who are bilingual not just French. It worked. He spoke it
well enough to get a job in a hotel while at university, and then as a
bartender and later as manager. He ended up in a bilingual government
position where the starting pay was 40% more than he had been making
managing a brew pub, and he gets a bonus for being bilingual. He has
since become fluent in Spanish.

Yeah, but you really should stop using the speaker phone. Sounds like
you're in a tunnel. Oh, and you don't have to shout. Get a headset if
you don't want to hold the phone. :)

I haven't gotten my "stimulus" check yet but no matter, it's already
spent. I paid my homeowner's insurance. When the check is [direct]
deposited it will almost make up the difference.

A cell phone, smart or not, is the last thing I'd think about using that
money for.

I facetiously suggested Ken should buy some cookbooks. He says says he
has cookbooks. Okay, so consult your Joy of Cooking and buy more dried
beans.
