Mine wasn't like home made as the Navy didn't have all the offal. |

I'll need to drag out a book that is all about scrapple, which is and was known by a variety of names. I don't think scrapple was an American invention.... Oh, pshew. I actually shelved this book in my breakfast section. I was afraid it was in an overflow stack or box. Anyway, one can just look at the dust flap of Country Scrapple: An American Tradition by William Woys Weaver to see that this type of food traces back at least to ancient Europe. The word "scrapple" is another story. I'll spare you from a brief history of leavened biscuits. I'd first have to ask about the leavening agent. |

Don't forget, she has often bought food online. Canned wild rice comes to mind. (ugh) Is she saying she has to hunker down and can't leave the house to buy more food? Got to use the provisions on hand? What happens when they're depleted? If she doesn't want meat, why is a meat shortage a problem? What is this "fake meat" she keeps talking about? I just checked her local government's web site. She can shop for food. I note her friend dined out in a fancy restaurant. That doesn't sound like any kind of hunkering down. > Got to use the provisions on hand? What > happens when they're depleted? God knows. Are things really that bad in > Bothell? Inquiring minds... ;) Perhaps people are buying meat and leaving the Impossible Burgers in the case. If she doesn't get there early, I can see why she might have trouble finding what she wants. I've been shopping at about 6 am before I got to work. The only trouble I have is that I get there before they're finished stocking, so some things I want just aren't out on the floor yet. Meat is in decent supply, although I was unsurprised to notice prices are going up. Sounds like a self-inflicted problem to me. Cindy Hamilton |
| Bryan Simmons <bryangsimmons@gmail.com>: Jul 25 11:39AM -0700 Yeah, it was 35 cents worth of flour instead of 5 cents, but it was way easier to work with. The texture of the noodles is very different, and you can roll them out thinner. My wife came home for lunch with bad news. Last summer a groundhog dug a burrow next to our house. I trapped it and took it far, far away. Apparently, a new groundhog has moved into the old burrow. Guess I have a good reason to buy a cantaloupe, which is what I caught the last one with. The good news is that the chicken soup turned out great. I think that's my cooking for the day. I'll get takeout for this evening, especially since my son's high school graduation is tonight. I can get something he likes a lot. --Bryan |
