| Bruce <ascottishsymphony@gmail.com>: Jan 18 12:53PM -0800 > Some guys carry a gun and get into altercations and actually forget they're carrying the gun. I had a regular cab customer who confessed that to me, said he got into an altercation with two guys and they were working him over pretty good (and he had the marks to prove it), and I asked him why he didn't pull his gun on them, as he had told me before that he just started carrying one. He said he forgot he had it on him. The whole time he's taking a pounding from two guys and he's got a gun in his pocket and forgets about it. Funny. > I am not into weapons but did carry a 15 ounce metal rod encased in leather. Not a sap, more of a small club. Very heavy, very dense. But carrying it was a chore. I'd use it mainly for walking home after parking the cab at the owner's house. Here I am carrying the thing for protection and I'd see a cop coming slowly down the street looking at me, then taking a slow u-turn with me tossing the weapon into the bushes or a trash can for later retrieval. Funny, carrying a weapon for protection and having to ditch it because the cops might frisk me for whatever reason. I was younger. The main reason I owned the club instead of a gun is that I was a heavy drinker at the time, did a lot of stupid irresponsible things just for laughs, and knew if I got into one of those stupid moods it would be a lot harder to beat myself to death with a club than to shoot myself with a gun. So I not only never carried a gun, I didn't want one around period. But I am not against them or even those who carry them, although I'm sure some are assholes or psychos, which of course can be found on either end of the spectrum. > Verdict - rendered! Over the long run, the vast majority of the world has followed the U.S. example and achieved independence from colonial masters, we prevented fascism from taking over Europe and East Asia, we won the Cold War and brought free markets to nearly every country in the world, helped end apartheid in South Africa, and helped bring functioning democracies to nearly all of the Americas and Europe, plus South Korea and Taiwan and Japan. |

Is that one of the more expensive properties in your region? Don't get me wrong, the concept of a condo is nifty in some situations. For instance, you don't want to or cannot physically do maintenance. The community living area, gym, pool, etc... especially if you are a traveling person, just lock up and go for months, no worries unless you have pets. That being said, I'd expect to pay a *lot* less for something where I don't tangibly own any land... even in a city, I can't fathom paying more than a third of that asking price for what you are getting. |

Is that one of the more expensive properties in your region? I searched for "most expensive condo in Ann Arbor", and that came up. There's a gorgeous house for sale for $1.75 million: <https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/1917-Washtenaw-Ave_Ann-Arbor_MI_48104_M33605-07553> But the location sucks. The median house price in Ann Arbor is about $566K. The median condo price is about $600K. This reflects the fact that most condos are new, but there's a fair amount of older single-family homes. There is a shit-ton of money in this town. A lot of well-compensated professors; a lot of tech spin-offs from the university. A lot of people with more money than brains. Cindy Hamilton |

| GM <gregorymorrowchicago07@gmail.com>: Jan 18 01:14PM -0800 Fuck the US "government". So I went online to order the "free" COVID – 19 tests. I proceeded to check out and was informed that I did not qualify: "At-home COVID-19 tests have already been ordered for this address. Our records show that at-home COVID-19 tests have already been ordered for this address. We are unable to process duplicate orders for the same address…" WTF…!!!??? I ordered two tests from CVS several months ago – at a cost of $50.00 – so I guess that "disqualifies" me… and I *do* have my own unique address. Why am I not surprised that this program is botched from the get - go...??? <sigh> - or "LOL...!!!" https://www.covidtests.gov/ Get free at-home COVID-19 tests Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order #44 free at-home COVID-19 tests. The tests are completely free. Orders will usually ship in 7-12 days. Order your tests now so you have them when you need them. Place Your Order for Free At-Home COVID-19 Tests Residential households in the U.S. can order one set of 4 free at-home tests from USPS.com. Here's what you need to know about your order: Limit of one order per residential address One order includes 4 individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests Orders will ship free starting in late January "At-home COVID-19 tests have already been ordered for this address. Our records show that at-home COVID-19 tests have already been ordered for this address. We are unable to process duplicate orders for the same address..." </> |

A good goal is to get to the point where LGBT people feel safe enough that they won't be arrested or beaten that they don't have to hide who they are in love with, and can serve openly in the government there as they do here. Being gay or lesbian is not a disorder any more than being Italian is a disorder. It doesn't stop anyone from living a happy, complete life and plenty of gay folks have kids. |
