last week i got my laptop back from the factory. they replaced the motherboard, the display screen and the hard drive. one problem i had besides display problems was that the keypad i'd have to press many times to get something going. now, lo and behold, i have the same problem again. sometimes i press the keypad and right away it works. other times i have to press it about 20 times to get something going. oy vey. right now it is working ok. 5 minutes ago it behaved like s#(^.
back to the factory again? while i still have a bit of a warranty left.

I would . And demand a new machine , that one was probably assembled
about 20 minutes before quitting time on a Friday . My "new" laptop is a
Lenove T510 Thinkpad factory refurb lease return . Not the fastest nor
has it got a gigantic HDD , but as a computer to take on trips and look
up stuff out in the shop it's just dandy . I paid well under 200 bucks
for a computer that sold (as far as I can determine) for a couple of
thousand new ... and when I opened the box , it looked new . I probably
wouldn't like it as my "main" computer , but it's great for what I
bought it for .

when i was in the last time, i 'asked' for a new machine. didn't 'demand' one. this time i'll bring it up again. last time, they told me 'no new machine'. this is at best buy. i don't know if you have that chain in the US. they're usually pretty good.

Yes, we have them and I avoid them for the reasons you are running into.
I've heard many complaints.

Good luck with southern Ontario corn this summer. It has been way to
wet and farmers have not been able to work their fields. There is
usually a lot of sweet corn grown around here but I have not seen any
corn plants growing at any of the usual producer's farms.

the first time i was in mexico, acapulco 1974, a woman used to sell corn at night, around 7:00 PM. she had it in a basket, sold it right by the ocean. she'd take a piece of lime, dip it in hot sauce and rub it over the cob. really delicious. i too have topped corn like this. lime and frank's hot sauce. however, frank's is a bit too hot. maybe i'll dilute it next time with water? the regular frank's really heats up the lips.

You are most welcome. There's tons of information out there about it. You don't have to spend a lot of money to try it either. You can do what I did and cobble together a standard crock pot ( one with just on, hifh, low settings) and a thermocouple. Go read this thread from a while back where I talk about it.

Your keybored is bork3n -
the shift keys don't work (no capital letters!) and I suspect there are
a couple of punctuation keys are also bork3n. Get those issues fixed
while it's still under warranty.

OR - give up and buy a new computer.

Not necessary but still ... those high-rise dwellers don't have the
pleasure of watching a bluejay pecking at a suet feeder that's 18" from
the dining room window . We actually planned on getting bees while we
lived in Memphis , took the class and everything . Decided after a bit
of research that the neighborhood was not conducive to having bees . All
it would take is for one of those oppressed minority citizens to get
stung and we'd get sued out of house and home .

blue jays are thieves. they are wonderful. I was in the park once feeding squirrels; had a peanut on my leg and a blue jay flew on my leg and stole it. the city ruined that park. they had benches made of a concrete frame with wooden slats for sitting and leaning back on. they were nice and comfy. they replaced those benches with some kind of cold hard plastic benches; put in a statue honouring firemen, putting in a sidewalk. what shit.

Just imagine what could have happened had you stepped in and taught your
own daughter about letters and told her it was S.

Grill was up on the deck. The snow blower does not go up steps well.
It was about 16' from the kitchen door. Not impossible, just got lazy
when there are alternatives.

Understood. If it were difficult, I wouldn't do it.

We lucked out with our ranch house whose back door is level with the
patio. If it weren't for the precipitous drop down the basement
stairs just inside, it would be beautifully wheelchair accessible.
If either of us needs it, there's a dining room window that overlooks
the patio that could be converted into a door.

Not a goat shed, since we have a basement.

Mine is further from the house, so a lot more work to shovel a path,
especially since the patio is sunken and has a fence on the west side,
which leads to drifting. It also about 50 feet from the door, so it is a
PITA to walk back and forth. There is the lighting problem.
