I don't know. Maybe she is just trying different cookies. She has made oatmeal, oatmeal with raisin and chocolate cookies so far. I think they are all excellent. The hard part for me is humping the damned Kitchenaid out of a cupboard thats shelf floor is above my eyes and putting it back in. I'm old. Only the top cupboards are high enough to fit the mixer which has had more of a workout in the last six months than in the last thirty years. I'm not complaining, although I sound like I am. I'll horse a mixer around for good cookies. leo |

jmcquown <j_mcquown@comcast.net>: Apr 21 11:03PM -0400 Steak again. A well marbled petite filet seasoned well with course ground black pepper and coursely ground salt. It had enough fat to not require any sort of oil added to the pan cast iron pan to sear it nicely. I cooked it to rare then seasoned it further with some dried thyme. Turned it and tested it, perfectly cooked. No more than med-rare. I finished it off in the pan with a pat of butter on top. Great steak! I cooked some wild rice to go with it. I started the wild rice on the stovetop about 45 minutes before I started the cooking the steak. Took it off the burner, covered it and set it aside. I steamed some frozen cauliflower florets to go with it. Quite a tasty dinner. :) Jill |

We had leftover mostaccioli in Newman's garlic spaghetti sauce with yesterday's meat loaf masquerading as meatballs. Oh...and a simple lettuce salad with Olive Garden Italian dressing. lenona321@yahoo.com: Apr 21 10:16PM -0700 In NYC. https://www.grubstreet.com/2020/04/jesus-roman-melendez-jean-georges-rip-coronavirus.html Excerpt: ...When Yustin set up a GoFundMe to help pay for her dad's funeral, she says she didn't expect to raise the $5,500 she had been quoted by funeral homes. "I didn't have that money, I didn't know what else to do, and my mom was in the hospital. I didn't think we were going to reach the goal, to be honest," she says. Within a few hours, donations came pouring in not just from friends and family but his former co-workers. She has raised nearly $20,000. "They were just saying these kind words, how much they loved working with him, he was an inspiration, how good of a guy he was." "When I heard about Jesus's death, I thought about all the other people who I have worked with. There are a thousand of those guys who are just the nameless, faceless workhorses who don't get the love they deserve," says Dean Sheremet, who worked with Melendez for two years and is now head of food and beverage for the Edition Hotels. Fine-dining kitchens are known as brutal, sometimes vicious work environments. The back of the house at Jean Georges is no exception, yet when asked about Melendez, his former co-workers shower him with compliments... Lenona. |

It's pretty bad when a trained and experienced nurse can't get a job on the middle of a pandemic when retired doctors and nurses are being asked to come out o retirement. The other day some here suggested ratting him out but I suggested that they would figure him out. I guess that is what happened when he showed up for orientation and now.... no job. |

Not that simple. Hospitals in some areas are well below capacity and have laid off staff. In the hot spots yes, they need people and even there, the need is diminishing. Some respiratory therapists went to NY with the promise of a job and were turned away when they go there last week. With elective procedures halted, many hospitals are at 50% capacity or less. I don't know the particulars of St Louis but from what John has posted need is low. |

Grin, I am no saint but I do care about my neighbors and try to help. Many others here probably do as well but it isn't mentioned. My current effort is a lady and her 3 kids with Celiac (genetic, runs in family). She's being hit with many issues at the same time and they are all high risk. The main organizer is a lady named Lisa. There are some 20 folks donating every 2 weeks because she can't use the food banks (we checked, doesn't work here for her). Amazing how many folks do a GF attempted (or low GF) are coming up with all sorts of stuff! I concentrate on frozen meats and things that have to be cold because the lady is near me so when Lisa picks up, I am last stop at about 10-15 minutes away. Everyone else has to expect 1 hour or more in a hot car so have to stick to shelf stable. It's pretty amazing to watch but I am not the center star (nor do I need to be). I am one of 20. Now Lisa? She's an angel! |

Even if it was only a second interview, they wouldn't have said "No" to his face. It would have been "We'll call you". Of course he isn't telling us what really happened. -sw |
